Artist Opening Reception
RACINE — Artists Gallery, 401 Main St., announces events for First Friday on Friday.
The gallery, Racine’s artists cooperative, presents a whole new gallery change over. This event happens every three months during the year when artists replace all their works with completely new pieces for the next three months. This gives the gallery a completely new look for the holidays. On display are works from 40 member artists from northern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin.
A reception for Barbara Duer Johnson, featured artist for November, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Johnson ,who considers herself a colorist, said “The process of painting is stimulating, but the mixing of colors to capture their luminous qualities is my joy. I want to share my view of the world and enable people to enjoy the beauty that I see.”
After receiving a high school summer scholarship to the University of Kansas, Johnson realized that art would play a major role in her life. She received her bachelor of arts in art and a master’s degree in education/counseling from the University of Wisconsin system. She has taught K-12, university and adult education and was an editor and writer for Western Publishing Co. Inc. Johnson is one of the founders of the Geneva Lakes Art Association School where she taught watercolor, mixed media and acrylic.
Johnson’s exhibition will continue through Nov. 29. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
