Kenosha Museum Tour
KENOSHA — The Civil War Museum, 5400 First Ave., will present “Up Close and Personal: Curator Tours and Theatre Programs,” featuring a curator-guided tour of “The Fiery Trial” exhibit at 7 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 20.
A former First Lady of Wisconsin, Harvey continued her late husband’s work by valiantly caring for wounded soldiers in hospitals and camps. The curator leads a tour that focuses on medical care during the Civil War and discusses how recruiting, life in camp, battlefield wounds, hospitals and women caring for the sick all played a role in the overall health of the common soldier.
On Sept. 17, meet William Herndon, during this monthly program that is presented on the third Thursday of the month. Few knew Abraham Lincoln better than his law partner. Join Herndon as he shares his memories of his friend. The curator leads a tour that focuses on Lincoln’s career as an Illinois attorney, the elections of 1860 and 1864, and his assassination at the hands of John Wilkes Booth.
On Oct. 15, meet Ida B. Wells and explore the African American experience in the late 19 century. Born a slave in 1862, Ida B. Wells began her activist career in Memphis but was forced to flee to Chicago. Learn about her reasons for this move. The curator will discuss the effects of Reconstruction on former slaves and their reasons for migrating to the North.
On Nov. 19, meet Caroline Quarlls and learn about southeastern Wisconsin’s involvement in the Civil War. As a 16-year-old girl, Quarlls escaped from slavery in Missouri. Join her as she recounts her thrilling journey through Illinois and Wisconsin. The curator’s tour looks at the artifacts and stories presented in “The Fiery Trial” including Quarlls letters.
Each Tour and Theatre program costs $15 or $10 for Friends member. Purchase tickets for the entire series and receive a discount.
Limited tickets will be available at the door. For more information call the museum at (262) 653-4140.
