Restoring Credibility to the Federal Budget

A Health Care Shell Game

Washington’s latest fiscal debacle nearly succeeded in plunging our nation a quarter-trillion dollars deeper in debt. Included in the thousands of pages in the Majority’s health care overhaul is a costly “fix” to avoid scheduled cuts in Medicare payment for doctors. With an intraparty dispute over whose taxes to raise in order to pay for this, the U.S. Senate offered a more cynical solution: take the $247 billion provision out of the health care legislation; pass it as a stand alone, budget-busting bill; congratulate itself for trimming the health care overhaul; and hope the American people aren’t smart enough to notice.(Oct 21, 2009 ) Full Story>>
