Letters to the Editor-5

Terrorizing a rabbit

I'm writing regarding the incident in which a male student stole a teacher's pet rabbit and abused it.

I read the article with horror. I felt sick and filled with rage at such cruelty. First of all, I cannot fathom why anyone would see the need or desire to harm a defenseless animal, and then go to the extremes of throwing the little thing around, kicking it and trying to drown it.

That poor little thing was terrorized by the creeps involved. I don't care if the abusers were kids, I'd like to see how they would feel if we decided to throw them around, kick them and try and drown them. You know, I do believe that Jeffrey Dahmer started out his ``career" by abusing animals; something for the parents to think about.

Duped by a lie

Carmen Cermak's letter in the Nov. 27 edition was extremely literate and erudite, although I'm not quite certain what ``androcentric reversal characteristic of anti-choice sectarians" means. The fact he refers to pro-life people as ``anti-choice," however, provides a good indication of where he stands.

His letter is a clear example of how intelligent, thoughtful people can be duped into believing a lie if they are fed on it long enough and loudly enough.

This strategy worked for Hitler as he followed Margaret Sanger's ``lead" in declaring that Jews, the mentally-ill, and people with big ears were not worthy of life.

It also worked 150 years ago in declaring Afro-Americans to be sub-human. One might have hoped that we would live in a generation that was no longer capable of this type of irrational thinking...a generation that would cherish life...but apparently this is not the case.

For all of his intellectual words and inflammatory language, Mr. Cermak cannot hide the truth which literally ``screams" at us through the cloudy veil of hypocrisy. He has chosen to label those who would prefer to give the innocent unborn a choice, as ``anti-choice," while sitting on a self-righteous ``pro-choice" platform...a platform which dictates that there can be no choice permitted for the baby, other than death. These ``zealots of death" will one day answer for the ``choices" they have made, but until then, let's pray for God's enlightenment, forgiveness, and mercy.

As for his ``reign of terror" issue, there can be nothing more terrifying than being dismembered by a ``caring" physician.

Does the atrocity of abortion justify a response in kind? Of course not...anyone who believes in the sanctity of the newborn's life must also believe in the sanctity of all life.

If there is a ``reign of terror," it began with the Roe v. Wade decision and the legalization of abortion on demand. What we seek after is a reign of peace, love and joy the reign of Jesus Christ in the hearts and minds of men and women everywhere.

McCormick not up to job

I was shocked to read the article on Nov. 24, 1998, that Charles McCormick was running for Mayor of Racine.

McCormick's statement ``I think individuals need to work with one another. It's the only way things really change" was a surprise.

He should have practiced that two years ago when he had an argument with his neighbor, which resulted in the shooting death of my son, Scott P. Serpe.

Racine be aware of who is running for office, because actions speak louder than words, as was the case with Scott. Is this really someone we would want to run the city of Racine?

A mayor has to deal with many stressful situations. He has to have the emotional maturity and stability to resolve conflicts, to work with people he may not personally agree with. Is Charles McCormick really someone we would consider for this job? I certainly would hope not.

New treasurer needed

Any Caledonia resident that has ever considered running for the office of town treasurer should throw his or her hat in the ring now.

After many years of peculiar office hours, general arrogance and countless mistakes that have cost the Caledonia money, James Woolrage does not need to run again unopposed.

Call the Caledonia Town Clerk for instructions on filing your nomination papers. Do not wait until it's too late.

A community gone wrong

During World War II the Japanese said America would fall without a shot being fired.

The Roman Empire fell when entertainment became priority one. Adolf Hitler said, ``Take their means of self defense, and then their food. They will conform."

Today we accept adultery, homosexuality, teen pregnancy, abortion and single parenthood. Alcohol has become our social structure and we pay our entertainers more than our doctors and teachers. We in Racine are a community gone wrong.

Family and self-sustenance were our strength. The Bible confirms this. History confirms this. Yet we embrace the immoral as did Sodom and Gomorrah. Anti-hunters criticize the hunt. Homosexuals criticize the heterosexuals and politicians tighten their grip. The police state is upon us all.

The firearm buy-back program has made you safe from yourselves. What about the criminal? The anti-hunter places animals above humans. The homosexual places perverted pleasure above family. The photos in Johnny turn in your guns reminded me of the press coverage when Yugoslavia demanded independence. Crushed were the rebels. America cried foul.

Our history rivals that of the Soviets. I refer to slavery and the mass genocide of the Native American. Gun control confirms the agenda of our government once again. Anti-hunting provides the final ingredient. A godless society dependent on its government. Family and self-sustenance was America's strength. Our mainland wasn't attacked because of this in World War II. The Soviet Union crumbled lacking this. I ask, ``What are you doing?"
