Letters to the editor-6

Judge mayor by his work

Robert Goepel's letter to the editor was shameful. Who of us wants to be judged by our actions as a teenager and to have it brought up 40 years later? It is over and done.

Mr. Goepel, I and others will judge our fine mayor by his work and outstanding reputation for the last 40 years, and we will also judge your friend, mayoral candidate and bar owner, Mark Eickhorst, on his work and reputation.

Entertainer and educator

I would like to thank The Journal Times and Bill and Jenny Buckmin on recognizing Chad Zimmerman in last Wednesday's column. Chad is a dedicated educator of our youth throughout Racine and Kenosha, and as an entertainer, he's a perfect 10. It's nice to see the media recognize outstanding young men like Chad, and let the community know there are positive role models in the entertainment industry for our kids to look up to.

He's been active in both public and private schools for the past four years, and helped numerous at risk youth change their entire lifestyle. His music reflects positive images and promotes education and family values. It's a refreshing change to the negative entertainers out now.

I think his appeal to children and adults comes from his ability to give a positive message, but at the same time formulate it in such a way that it combines education and great entertainment.

Bravo to you as the city editor. Bravo to The Journal Times. And, bravo to the schools and nightclubs that feature this talented and fine young man.

Forgive Clinton

This is a letter of great concern and importance.

Our country is going through turmoil because of the presidential impeachment proceeding.

Let's forgive President Clinton; the guy made a mistake. He did real good for the United States. He lowered the unemployment, lowered the prime rate, and he balanced the budget.

Let's have Clinton say he's sorry and that he will never do that again.

And President Clinton has learned his lesson. Which will make him a better president of America.

Abuse of unborn is worse

This letter was sparked by reading a letter to the editor about the poor little bunny rabbit being abused. The American people have become backwards in the '90s.

People get all upset over seven cats being killed, to the extent that the courthouse is even packed with people outraged by the guy's actions. This guy got more time in jail than a couple from Milwaukee got from murdering their baby. The cat killer got 11 years. The mother got two years and the father got three.

Where was the packed courtroom in that case? Where is the outrage concerning over 30 million babies being murdered a year? Where is the outrage over partial birth abortion?

Babies' lives have become so cheap in the 90s. We feel sorry for the poor mother that just shook her baby to death or left it in the trash can to die! What about the baby whose life was mercilessly taken?

I like animals, but I will not lose any sleep over a rabbit being abused or seven cats dying. A baby should be the most precious life that there is and yet, in our backwards society, it is the cheapest life there is! Something is deeply wrong in America today and people better wake up and realize this before it is too late!

Where's the myth?

David L. Nelson raises the question of Gene Malone's use of the phrase ``the myth of separation of church and state." Amendment 1 states, ``Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibit the free exercise thereof."

It's simple enough. The government doesn't establish a state church or religion. It also guarantees that it would not interfere with the exercise of it.

European countries such as Sweden, Norway and Denmark established state churches. As far as I am able to determine by personal observance, they have freedom of conscience, but I'm not sure about the government's efficiency. It seems they are heavily taxed.

Thanks for the concert

Last night we attended the Washington Park High School Holiday concert. We would like to thank the Park music director Doug Johnson, Chamber Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band and Concert Band for the most enjoyable evening of beautiful music to listen to. Your time and hard work gave us a special Christmas concert.

Thank you.
