RACINE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL OPENINGS ANNOUNCED

RACINE - Racine Christian School has openings in the second through fourth grades for the second semester beginning this week.

NEW DESTINY ACADEMY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS


RACINE - New Destiny Christian Academy, 1819 State St., is accepting applications from students going to kindergarten through fourth grade in the 2005-06 school year. The new private Christian school will accept applications on a first-come, first-served basis.

WALDEN III PRESENTS `ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE'


RACINE - Walden III High School students will present "All Kinds of People" at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Walden III High School, 1012 Center St.

Written by Oscar Hammerstein in the 1950s when people were being blacklisted, this musical review explores themes of racism and cultural bias. It was written especially for schools and addresses the dangers of prejudice, the importance of tolerance and the empowerment of self-esteem. These themes are expressed through the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein in songs such as "Ol' Man River" from "Show Boat," "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught" from "South Pacific" and others from "The King and I," "The Sound of Music," and "Carousel."

Tickets cost $7 for adults; $4 for students and seniors. Tickets are available in advance at the school and from cast members, as well as at the door.

ADULTS-ONLY INTERNET SAFETY PROGRAM OFFERED

RACINE - An Internet Safety Program will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the John Foster Auditorium at St. Catherine's High School, 1200 Park Ave.

This eye-opening presentation will describe how parents can protect their children from being victimized and exposed to harmful materials on the Internet. A live online demonstration also will be included.

Special Agent Eric Szatkowski from the Wisconsin Department of Justice has instructed more than 15,000 people, including police officers, prosecutors, child welfare advocates, correctional and social workers, business and civic groups, school officials, parents and students in Wisconsin and around the country. Due to the nature of the program, only adults are invited.

MCKINLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL HOSTS ANNUAL CARNIVAL

RACINE - The McKinley Middle School PTSA will hold their annual carnival from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the school gym, 2340 Mohr Ave.

The theme is "McLuau Island Adventure." John Schoettler will direct the McKinley Jazz I and II bands and the Hale `O Malo Polynesian Dancers will perform authentic Hawaiian dances.

All who attend can enter for door prizes. Admission is free. Tickets will be on sale the night of the carnival at the cost of $1 for four tickets to be used for all games and food.

ST. RITA PLANS ANNUAL SPRING FLING AUCTION

CALEDONIA - St. Rita's School's annual fund-raiser auction, Spring Fling, will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at St. Rita School, 4433 Douglas Ave. Adults ages 21 and above are invited.

Live auction items include classroom projects created by the students and parents such as scrapbooks, quilts and a game table; coupons for services; gift baskets; and donations from local businesses. There will also be a silent auction and games. Little vacation getaways will be constructed offering blended drinks, wine, beer and soda. Little bite size treats will be offered. Entertainment includes guitarist Jill and Jim from 7 to 9 p.m. and a disc jockey from 9 to 11 p.m.

Tickets are available at the St. Rita Church Office, (262) 639-3223 for $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Tickets include admission, appetizers and two drink tokens.

The families and teachers of St. Rita work together to plan this event to raise money for the Jay Kasprzak Memorial Fund. This account is used to help families in the community who would like to have the choice to send their children to St. Rita but find it difficult to afford the rising cost of a parochial school education.

CATHOLIC CENTRAL SETS SPRING MUSICAL/FUND-RAISER

BURLINGTON - The Spring Musical /Fund-raiser Just Off Broadway production of "Grease" will be performed April 15-17 and 21-23 at Catholic Central High School, 148 McHenry St.

The April 16 performance includes a special theme, dinner theater package catered by Chef Michael Lavin of Courtyard Catering by Spiegelhoffs. Tickets for the dinner theater package cost $45 per person and may be purchased by calling Mary Krause at (262) 763-5237. Musical tickets are available at the Daily Brew, 557 Milwaukee Ave., (262) 767-9951. Reserved seating is $8 for adults; $4 for children under 12. Premium reserved seating for the first five rows and riser seating is $15 each.

STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN MUSICAL

BURLINGTON - Third and fourth grade students will participate in a "Night in the Arts" featuring the musical "Freedom," a celebration of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, from 6 to 7 p.m. April 12 in the Winkler Elementary School gym, 34150 Fulton St. Student artwork will also be displayed.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT HOSTS SENIOR CITIZEN/GRANDPARENTS DAY

RACINE - The Horlick High School Student Government Program will host its Senior Citizen/Grandparents Day from 8 a.m. until noon April 13 in the auditorium at Horlick High School, 2119 Rapids Drive.

Activities include speakers, a band performance and a short excerpt from the spring play. A tour of the school will be given by student government members. Lunch will be provided to all that attend. For more information, contact Victor Moreno at (262) 619-4300 ext. 8918.

PRAIRIE PREMIERE SET FOR APRIL 16

WIND POINT - The Prairie School, 4050 Lighthouse Drive, will hold its eighth annual Prairie Premiere at 6 p.m. April 16 in the school field house.

This elegant dinner and auction benefits the Prairie School Scholarship Fund which helps partially fund tuition for more than 42 percent of the Prairie School student community. The evening includes a gourmet dinner, silent and voice auctions, raffles, games and after-dinner dancing.

The theme for this year, "Premiere 2005, On the Headmaster's Secret Service," invites the public to help with the "mission" to raise money for scholarships. There will be plenty of travel, jewelry, art and entertainment to tempt even James Bond.

Featured voice auction items include the "Spirit of Carnauba" plane ride, World Series tickets for two games, a black and white diamond necklace, an original signed James Bond Movie Poster, the Rembrandt etching "Landscape with a Cow Drinking" and many more one-of-a-kind items. The silent auction includes art pieces, jewelry, furniture and tickets to sport and theater events. Raffle tickets for an iPod Photo (40GB) and string of cultured pearls are also available.

PLANETARIUM PROGRAM OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

FRANKSVILLE - The Racine Unified School District Planetarium will present, "Visions of a Spring Night" as the April public planetarium program. The program provides a journey through the sights and sounds of a spring evening.

From Ursa Major, the giant bear to Corvus the crow; from Hercules to Leo the lion, the spring constellations and their stars are displayed in their quiet splendor. Myths associated with many of the constellations are shared on this stellar tour. Weaved throughout the program and the stories are explanations of proper star motion, binary or double stars, and star clusters. Many of the stars discussed are easily viewed from Racine with the naked eye or binoculars.

The program concludes with suggestions of how to find constellations in the spring sky above Racine. Free star maps will be available.

"Visions of a Spring Night" will begin at 7 p.m. April 14 and will be repeated at 7 p.m. April 19. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling (262) 631-7093. Due to limited seating, reservations cannot be accepted for organizations or groups. The planetarium is located in Gifford Elementary School at 8332 Northwestern Ave. Attendees may park in the east lot and enter through the southeast doors.

ST. MARY'S HOSTS CASINO NIGHT

BURLINGTON - St. Mary's Grade School will hold Casino Night 2005 from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday in the gym at Catholic Central High School, 148 McHenry St.

A dinner of international cuisine prepared by Chef Mike of Courtyard Catering will include carved beef and turkey, freshly prepared salads, pastas, a Mexican station and dessert bar.

The gaming tables include Texas hold `em, blackjack, craps and roulette. A Texas hold `em tournament will also be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Pre-registration is recommended by contacting Jennifer Gryniewicz at (262) 763-5632.

Live music, an oral and silent auction, drawings, and cash bar will be held throughout the evening.

Tickets are available at St. Mary's Grade School and rectory office, Schmaling's Piggly Wiggly, Richter's Sentry, and Spiegelhoff's Pick `N Save in Burlington. Ticket prices are $30 per person in advance and $35 per person at the door. MasterCard and VISA are accepted at the event. Attendees must be 21 years or older to attend.

LIVE AND SILENT AUCTION FOR PROVIDENCE CATHOLIC SCHOOL

BRIGHTON - Providence Catholic School will host it sixth Annual Live and Silent Auction April 16 at the West Campus located on the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 1714 240th Ave. ( Highway X). The Silent Auction will start at 6 p.m. and run until 8:30 p.m. The Live Auction will start shortly after. This casual event is adult only, with plenty of items to bid on for all ages. Admission is free and we offer complimentary hors d'oeuvres. Beer, wine and soda are available for purchase. Feel free to arrive in your favorite fifties attire.

ADOLESCENT TASK FORCE PRESENTS MONTESSORI MARKET

RACINE - The Adolescent Task Force presents "Montessori Market" from 1 to 4 p.m. April 16 at Racine Montessori School, 2317 Howe St.

The market features vendors including Gold Canyon Candle Co., Creative Memories, Joli Enterprises, Jewelry Sales, Pampered Chef, Big Yellow Box, Longaberber Basket, L'Bri, Tastefully Simple, Home and Garden Party, Jensen Embroidery and Grandpa's Log Cabin Lamps.

A percentage of the proceeds generated from the Montessori Market is to be donated to the Adolescent Program which is to increase the school to include eighth grade.

SACRED HEART SCHOOL HOSTS AUCTION

STURTEVANT - Sacred Heart School is raffling off "One Free Year of Gas" as part of the second annual "Works of Heart" spring auction. The winner of this prize need not be present to win. The drawing will take place April 30 at the auction being held at Sacred Heart School, 2023 Northwestern Ave.

The winner will receive 52 $25 Speedway gift cards - that equals $1,300 in gas. Each raffle ticket sells for $10 or three for $20. Raffle tickets can be purchased from Amy Davis at the school by calling (262) 637-2012 or contact a Sacred Heart family. All checks should be made out to Sacred Heart School.

ST. JOHN'S HOLDS OPEN HOUSE

RACINE - St. John's Lutheran School, 510 Kewaunee St., will hold an open house from 6:30 to 8 p.m. April 21. Parents who might be interested in a Christian education for their children are invited to come and receive further information that would help them make a decision. Parents will be able to tour the building, meet the teachers, ask questions about the curriculum, and get a general feel for what happens at the school.

Space is available in all classes, pre-kindergarten through grade eight. For more information call (262) 633-2758 during school hours.
