House of the holistics: Lake House Health & Learning Center to offer variety of services for mind and body
By Michael Burke
RACINE - Nine professionals are coming together under one roof to offer physical, mental and emotional services ranging from yoga and psychotherapy to feng shui consultation.
They are part of a new endeavor called Lake House Health & Learning Center, which is opening piece by piece at 932 Lake Ave. Each practitioner is an independent business owner.
Karen Carnabucci, a local psychotherapist, bought the building in September and opened the center to house various services and programs, some traditional and some not. "Many of our programs are the kinds of programs that people haven't been able to find locally," she stated.
Among them are Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and "Smoke Free, Naturally," in cooperation with a local acupuncturist for people seeking a drug-free way to quit smoking.
Practitioners at Lake House include: * Carnabucci, a psychotherapist and one of two psychodrama trainers in Wisconsin. Her areas of interest include women in transition, career change, stress reduction, addiction within families, nicotine dependency, trauma and domestic violence, and people in advanced 12-step recovery.
* Ron Anderson, a certified trainer, educator and practitioner of psychodrama, sociometry and group psychotherapy. He will co-teach the professional training series with Carnabucci.
* The Rev. June Scott Nettles. She will offer individual sessions for people seeking counseling specifically involving spiritual guidance, as well as day-long or weekend retreats for adults on spiritually related topics.
She is also a photographer who will display and sell her work there.
* David Granados, or Eight Eagles, with the Earth Lodge Foundation. He will facilitate ongoing talking circles which are gathering of people according to Native American traditions. These may include story-telling, possibly drumming and more.
* Lesa Yanuzzi, a certified practitioner of Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy which employs hatha yoga postures and client-centered dialog. Hers is the only such practice in the Racine-Kenosha region.
Yanuzzi will offer individual sessions, classes and workshops for groups.
* Melissa Taylor, practitioner of massage shiatsu, the Japanese art of acupuncture without needles. This deep-tissue massage is used pain relief and treatment of many chronic symptoms of diseases.
Taylor also makes many of her own health and beauty care products that she uses in her practice.
* Sea Daniel and Niiti Gannon of Wind Water Feng Shui. They will do consultations for home and workplace settings and home and commercial real estate sales. Daniels and Gannon also will offer periodic workshops on feng shui, the Asian art of design to create healthy and harmonious work and living spaces.
Lake House will hold an open house on Dec. 3 with demonstrations, door prizes, music and activities. Details will be announced later. For more information about Lake House and its services, call (262) 633-2645 or visit: http://www.lakehousecenter.com
