RACINE - A Kenosha teenager escaped authorities briefly Monday while he was being transported to the Racine County Juvenile Detention Facility.

Brandon Battersby, 17, slipped his hand out of handcuff, slipped off boots and took off running after a Kenosha County Sheriff's Department squad car stopped outside of the detention facility, located at 1717 Taylor Ave., according to a criminal complaint.

Racine County Sheriff's deputies were called to the parking lot to search for Battersby. He was arrested hiding behind a shed in a yard at 1835 Holmes Ave.

Battersby later told police he was running to Kenosha and that he had first hid under a bush. After he came out, he saw the police searching for him and tried to hide behind the shed.

Battersby was charged with escape-criminal arrest. If convicted, he could be sentenced to six years in prison.

* CALEDONIA Chase exceeds speeds of

125 mph

Deputies arrested an 18-year-old man from Wind Point on Monday after a chase that reached speeds higher than 125 mph, according to a criminal complaint.

According to police reports, Benjamin Ogas, 6919 Willowbrook Road, was spotted speeding north on Charles Street. A Racine County Sheriff's deputy pursued, following Ogas west on 5½ Mile Road, north on Dustir Road to Novak Road, south on Meadow Lane, west on Dustir, south on Novak Road, east on 5½ Mile Road and south on Charles Street. As Ogas passed 4 Mile Road, the sheriff's pursuit was called off.

But after the pursuit was terminated, the suspect turned east on 4 Mile Road, slowed and then accelerated in an apparent attempt to ram a full-sized pickup truck; the driver of the truck avoided the suspect, and the sheriff's deputy restarted the

pursuit.

The suspect continued east on 4 Mile Road until it came to a stop at Hunt Club Road. Ogas refused an order to show his hands, and the deputy removed him from the car.

During the ensuing investigation, Ogas told the deputy he started the pursuit because he was "in a hurry to get home," the complaint said.

Ogas was charged with fleeing an officer, second-degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of drug paraphernalia.
