Where did they get those nice chairs down at Monument Square? Are they planning to use them next year as well? They look like recycled plastic and are very comfortable.
The city ordered the chairs through Milaeger's using grant money obtained from Sustainable Racine's Sustainable Neighborhood Partnership Program.
The purchase of the chairs went through a bidding process. Mayor Gary Becker and the Downtown Racine Corp. applied for the grant money.
The chairs debuted in time for the Fourth of July parade and Sister City celebration, which commemorated 50 years of relations between Racine and Montelimar, France.
"I think when we get past Party on the Pavement (Oct. 7) and the weather gets cold, we'll pull them in," said Devin Sutherland, executive director of Downtown Racine Corporation. "I don't suspect we'll leave them out all winter."
The Adirondack-style chairs are made of recyclable plastic and will be used again next year. The chairs are an attractive stop-gap. The design of Monument Square included permanent seating, but the money didn't exist. The chairs are an interesting way to provide seating until permanent structures are provided.
Don't worry about the chairs. They're owned by the city and they'll be back.
If Hillary Clinton is elected president what would we call Bill Clinton? There is no precedent, since we've never elected a female president. Hillary Clinton will be referred to as "Madam President" if ever she wins the presidency.
Since Bill Clinton is a past president, he'd likely be called Mr. President, or former President Clinton, if he makes a trip to the White House with his wife in charge. Even when not in office, past commanders in chief retain the title of Mr. President.
This would not be the case for most anyone else.
Any other guy would likely be known as "First Gentleman." That's how Dan Mulhern is known. Mulhern, Michigan's First Gentleman, is married to Jennifer M. Granholm, Michigan's governor.
Jose Miguel Tuason Arroyo, husband of Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is also known as "First Gentleman."
Did Burlington native Gregory Itzin win an Emmy? He unfortunately did not.
Itzin, nominated in the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, earned the nod for his portrayal last season of President Charles Logan on Fox's "24."
Entertainment Weekly's Michael Imperioli said Itzin would win. TV Guide called it, though, when it wrote that Itzin should win, but speculated that Alan Alda would walk away with the prize. On Sunday, Alda did just that.
Alda earned his nominated for his portrayal of presidential candidate Republican Sen. Arnold Vinickon NBC's "The West Wing."
Itzin played Logan for two seasons. In that time, his character turned from a seemingly weak president into one heck of a manipulator. Jack Bauer, played by Keifer Sutherland, eventually brought down Logan for his involvement in a series of terrorist attack on the U.S.
Itzin's film credits include "Airplane," "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," "The Fabulous Baker Boys," "The Client," "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and "Small Soldiers."
Aside from "24," Itzin's recent TV credits include "Boston Legal," "Enterprise," "Judging Amy," "The O.C.," "Friends," "The Practice," and "NCIS." In 1994 he co-starred with Gene Wilder in a short-lived NBC sitcom entitled "Something Wilder."
