Glad You Asked: Pink Green Bay Packer hats; Green Bay's legacy as Title Town; different military berets

Where can I purchase a pink Green Bay Packers' hat symbolizing breast cancer awareness, and what is the cost? Head to eBay. Fourteen items returned after a search for "pink packers hats." An authentic pink Packers hat is fetching about $30.

I know this isn't the answer you want. The pink Packers' hat sale through the Packers and American Family Insurance ended last November. The Packers sold the caps for $15 and donated $5 from the sale of every hat to charities supportive of breast cancer research.

Make sure you're getting the real deal if you buy on eBay or anywhere else.

The Packers' breast cancer awareness hat is pink, with the Packers' "G" on the front. A pink ribbon and the American Family Insurance logo is embroidered on the back.

The Packers are selling red hats this season, as a fundraiser for those organizations helping fight heart disease. The item is exclusive to the Packers Pro Shop, and can be ordered online at: http://www.packersproshop.com

How did Green Bay come to be known as Titletown? Jack Yuenger of the Green Bay Press-Gazette coined the phrase. Yuenger worked as the Press-Gazette's advertising manager in 1961 when the Packers beat the Giants 37-0 for the NFL title. Yuenger convinced the Press-Gazette to print the slogan on signs and distribute those signs to the public, and the moniker stuck.

The 1961 title, the first during Lombardi's tenure, also is the first title the Packers won in Green Bay.

The Packers won titles in 1929, 1930 and 1931 by virtue of holding the league's best record at season's end. They beat the Boston Redskins 21-6 in New York for the 1936 title. In 1939, they beat the Giants 27-0 in Milwaukee for the league crown.

Green Bay beat the Giants again in 1944, 14-7 for the league title.

What do the different colors of beret worn by United States' military personnel signify?

Berets are worn by all men in Army and Air Force Special Operations units.

Black berets are worn by all soldiers in the Army.

Members of Special Forces units wear green berets.

Members of Ranger Batallions wear tan berets.

Members of airborne units - paratroopers - wear maroon berets.

Rangers didn't always wear tan berets - they used to be black. But Army Chief of Staff Gen. Eric Shinseki announced on Oct. 17, 2001, that the black beret would become standard Army headgear in 2002. The Rangers became the odd force out, and begrudgingly switched to tan.

The Air Force is a different story, and with more berets.

Black berets are worn by those assigned to a Tactical Air Control Party, air liaison Officers and air mobility liaison officers.

Maroon berets are worn by those in pararescue - those who save downed pilots.

Red berets are worn by combat controllers, who enter a hostile area ahead of an invading force and establish air traffic control operations.

Air Force Security Forces wear royal blue berets and those in Combat Weather wear grey berets.

The Navy, Marines and Coast Guard do not issue berets as a standard uniform item. Women in the Navy and Coast Guard are authorized to wear a black beret, if they choose. No Marine is authorized to wear a beret.
