RACINE - Artist design proposal packets are now available for Downtown's 2007 public art event, the sixth consecutive, which will feature lighthouses. The packets are available on-line at http://www.racinedowntown.com/2007PublicArtEvent-Lighthouses.html or can be picked up at the Downtown Racine Corp. office, 413 Main St.

Artists will be awarded a stipend to cover some of their costs. Cash prizes will also be awarded to those artists winning the "best of show" as determined by a panel of judges. Prizes to be awarded are $2,000 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $500 for third.

All design proposals must be submitted to the DRC by Feb. 28. A panel of judges will determine the designs for the 2007 event. Artists will be notified by mail of the final selections; they will also be notified of when they can pick up the lighthouse form.

Approximately 75 lighthouses will be available for artists to design. The finished pieces of art will adorn the streets of Downtown Racine throughout this summer and be sold at auction at summer's end.
