Rangers put on good shows

The UW-Parkside men's soccer team didn't come away with a victory Sunday, but it still left a positive impression on coach Rick Kilps.
Playing in the Bowling Green Invitational, the Rangers acquitted themselves well in two matches against Division I teams.
The Rangers tied Wright State 1-1 and then lost to Ohio State 2-0.
Against Wright State, Parkside took a 1-0 lead at the 12th minute on a goal from 18 yards by freshman forward Johnson Thao. Wright State then countered with a goal at the 19th-minute mark.
Neither team could find the net the rest of the way in the 60-minute match.
"The first half was very difficult for us because there was a strong wind in our face," Kilps said. "But we kept battling. Bar none, they are the best team we've played this spring."
Victor Perez was in goal in both games for the Rangers, who are 1-1-3.
Track and field
PARKSIDE: Naomi Fulton and Jessica Lamp each recorded first-place finishes in the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic over the weekend at Lewisburg, Pa.
Fulton had a personal-best time of 4:28.33 to win the 1,500-meter run Friday night. Lamp placed second at 4:29.65, also a career best.
Saturday, Lamp won the 800-meter run and Fulton finished second. Lamp was timed at a career-best 2:10.15, and Fulton was timed at 2:12.81. Jill Winkler was sixth.
Winkler and Fulton were also members of Parkside's winning 3,200-meter relay team. Fulton, Winkler, Laura Braunreiter and Jessica Enderby had a time of 9:30.14.
"Jessica Lamp and Naomi Fulton each raced very well in the 1,500 and 8000," Parkside coach Mike De Witt said. "The 1,500 was a race they could follow a fast pace in and then close out with a good finish. But in the 800, they got out of traffic early and ran away from the field.
"It was a good experience for all of the athletes to compete in a meet like this."
In the men's portion of the meet, Parkside's Brendan Kelly placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles.
Parkside also had runners compete at the Elmhurt College Invitational Saturday. Mark Snodgrass wn the 400 meter hurdles at 58.81 and Melissa Nilles won the pole vault at 10 feet.
Heidi Andesen was second in the 1,500-meter run at 5:05.09 and was seventh in the 800 run at 2:33.41.
