Teen looks to help shape the world through verse

Name: Kevin Brown

Age: 19

Personal/family: Darlene Upchurch, mother; Kevin Brown Sr., father; Devin Brown, brother; and Aaliyah Brown, sister.

Hobbies/interests: I used to play varsity football for St. Cat's and I write a lot of poetry.

Occupation: For now I'm just an author and a performing poet.

Volunteer service: St. Paul Baptist Church - I help serve the needy at various dinners. I was in the choir for two years and I help run the children's church on Sundays.

Recent accomplishment: "Poetentiary," which came out on March 14. It's a book of poetry.

Why is it important? It's an official release book that holds the up and coming generation's thoughts. Thoughts which are expressed through poetry.

One choice of a dinner companion, dead or alive: The great late singer Aaliyah. Aaliyah was just one of those people who I had on a list to meet when I was got older. I loved her music growing up and now that she's dead. I'll never have that opportunity to meet her in the flesh.

I knew I was an adult when: I was allowed to vote.

First job/weirdest job: Selling required books at St. Catherine's bookstore.

My friends describe me as: Deep and blessed. Also very lyrical when it comes to writing poetry.

Person I admire most: Tupac Shakur has motivated me in numerous ways. He has turned just about all of his negative situations into a positive. Tupac Shakur wasn't only a wonderful rap artist, but he was a wonderful poet and actor. I look at Tupac Shakur as basically a teacher. I used to study his ways of writing rhymes as if they were notes for a class.

What I miss most from my childhood: My childhood.

In the next five years I would like to accomplish: A series of released books under my name along with the fame of being a writer, poet, and revolutionizer through poetry.
