Carr, Wollberg leads Red Men

Matt Carr and Tyler Wollberg were on top of their golf games Sunday.
As a result, Carthage College finished atop the 11-team Carroll College Invitational at The Broadlands in North Prairie.
Carr and Wollberg each shot par 72s in leading the Red Men to a 298 total. Monmouth (Ill.) college was second with a 303 total and Knox College was third with a 306 total.
David Marquardt of Knox College earned medalist honors with a 71.
Baseball
The Rangers managed only three hits in losing to Northern Kuckey 2-1 in the opener and collected just five in losing the second game 5-0.
Mike Umscheid had one of the Rangers' hits in the opener and had the team's only RBI.
In the second game, center-fielder Ryan Hopp had two hits for Parkside, which is 12-16 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and 17-24 overall.
CARTHAGE: The Red Men got off to a good start in their College Conference of Illinois doubleheader against Lakeland College at Kenosha when Tyler Yapp hit a two-run homer in the first inning.
Yapp's homer helped the Red Men win the opener 9-3. Yapp also contributed a RBI double in the second inning.
Yapp also helped the Red Men take command early in the second game, which Carthage won 21-3. Yapp delivered a RBI double in the first inning when the Red Men scored 11-0 runs.
Carthage improved to 19-11 overall; Lakeland is 11-17.
Softball
UW-PARKSIDE: Michelle Racine had two RBIs in leading the Rangers to a 3-0 victory over St. Francis in the first game of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Ranger Field in Somers.
The Rangers completed the sweep with a 7-2 triumph in the second game.
Racine drove in a run in the third inning with a single and had another RBI in the fifth when her double scored Katrina Homa.
Parkside starter Meagan Shimkus (14-8) pitched a three-hitter in the first game, and Jessica Bryant (6-4) scattered seven hits in the second game for the Rangers (22-17).
St. Francis is 16-18.
CARTHAGE: Jenny Burke hit a two-run home run in the first inning to spark the Lady Reds to a 5-0 victory over Ripon College at Kenosha.
Carthage, with Burke hitting a solo home run in the second inning, won the second game 9-3 to improve its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin record to 4-6. The Lady Reds are 18-14 overall.
Track and field
UW-PARKSIDE:
Brendan Kelly won the 400-meter hurdles in the Benedictine University Invitational Saturday. Kelly was timed at 54.78 seconds.
Dan La Belle, a freshman, placed ninth in the 1,500-meter run
n The Rangers got second-place finishes from Valerie Kelly and Jessica Lamp in the Augustana College Invitational Friday at Rock Island, Ill.
Kelly ran a career-best 4:4412 in the 1,500-meter run. Lamp was second in the 5,000-meter run at 18:17.01, 30 seconds faster than her previous best time.
Parkside's Naomi Fulton placed third and Jill Winkler was fifth in the 5,00-meter run. The Rangers' 1,600-meter relay team of Laura Braunreiter, Lamp, Fulton and Winkler finished fourth at 4:05.19.
Parkside placed fifth in the 10-team meet with 61 points. UW-Oshkosh was first with 3-4 points.
CARTHAGE: The Red Men had two individuals - Michael White and Nate Hughes - place third in the Meet of Champions over the weekend at Rock Island, Ill.
White was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 9:32.40, and Hughes was third in the javelin at 157-6.
Carthage's Buzzy Brown was third in the long jump at 22-11.
Carthage placed seventh in the nine-team meet with 65 points. UW-Oshkosh was first with 213 points.
