Red Men's title is collective effort

The Carthage Red Men used a team effort to win the College Conference of Illiois and Wisconsin Men's golf championship Saturday.
The Red Men had four golfers place in the top nine in the tournament at the tournament Players Club at Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
Tyler Wollberg led the Red Men with a second-place finish. Wollberg shot a final round 80 for a 308 total. Teammates Scott Hood was third after shooting a 73 in the final round for a 309 total.
Carthage had a four-round total 1,232. That was four strokes better than runner-up Ilinois Wesleyan.
By winning the tournament, the Red Men secured the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
CARTHAGE:
The Red Men seemingly couldn't do anything wrong Saturday.
Getting good pitching and productive hitting, the Red Men swept North Park University 8-1 and 10-0 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin doubleheader at Carthage Baseball Field in Kenosha.
The Red Men moved to a 3-0 advantage in the third inning on a RBI single by Ty Heegeman. They then scored five runs in the fifth inning to pull away. Mike Hughes hit a two-run double in the inning. The Red Menalso got RBI singles from Chris Shannon, Steve Coughlin and Jose Alba.
Carthage starter Jacob Husing (6-3) gave up only one hit over the first five innings.
In the second game, Carthage scored four times in the first inning. Steve Rucks played a key role for the Red Men in that inning. He had a RBI single and scored on a single by Tyler Yapp.
The scheduled nine-inning game was halted in the eighth because of the 10-run rule.
Chris
Carthage's Jeff Livek (6-2) pitched the first seven innings and scattered five hits. he struck out five and didn't walk anyone.
The Red Men improved their CCIW record to 15-5 and overall mark to 27--1. North Park is 14-25, 7-13 CCWI.
Softball
UW-PARKSIDE:
The Rangers saw their season come to an end Friday when they were eliminated from the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament at East Peoria, Ill.
The Rangers won their first game, beating Missouri-Rolla 4-1. They then lost to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 3-1 and Southern Indiana 7-0.
The Rangers finished with a 26-20 record.
Against Missouri-Rolla, Parkside got RBIs from Amanda Miller, Katrina Homa, Sara Anderson and Stephanie Luska.
Parkside's Meagan Shimkus gave up only two hits in seven innings.
The Rangers managed seven hits against SIU-Edwardsville, two by Miller, who also scored the team's only run.
Southern Indiana took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning and then broke the game open with four runs in the sixth. Parkside had just three hits in the game.
