Local baseball: Winiarski helps Hitters sweep
A pair of draftees helped the Racine Hitters baseball team sweep a doubleheader Saturday at Carthage College in Kenosha.
Andrew Paulauskas, a Kenosha Tremper High School graduate and a seventh-round draft pick of the Florida Marlins, struck out six, didn't walk a batter and pitched a five-hitter in the Hitters' 4-0 victory over the Illinois Sparks.
Cody Winiarski, a Union Grove High School graduate who was drafted in the 48th round by the Philadelphia Phillies, went 2-for-3 and had an RBI for the Hitters.
Winiarski, a 6-foot-4 right-hander, pitched the Hitters to a 9-2 victory over the White Sox in the second game. Winiarski allowed three hits and struck out 10. Union Grove teammate Jared Andreoli went 2-for-4 to lead the Hitters offensively.
On Friday, the Raptors beat the Waterford Junior Legion 9-4 at Waterford. Jake Lueneburg's RBI triple scored Jake Stublaski in the fourth and back-to-back RBI singles by Joe Gilboy and Willms put Racine ahead for good. Gilboy added a two-run double in the fifth and Otto Muhlenberg had a two-run single in the sixth.
