Vipers place second at Stars of Tomorrow Baseball Tournament

The Racine Baseball Cooperative Racine Vipers placed second in the 14-and-under Classic Division in the recent Stars of Tomorrow Baseball Tournament in La Crosse. The field consisted of 20 teams from the upper Midwest, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Minnesota. The Vipers opened with an 8-3 victory over the Eagan Big Cats, then beat the Wisconsin River Cats 3-1. After losing 3-0 to the Arlington Heights (Ill.) Cardinals, the Vipers concluded pool play with a 9-2 victory over the La Crosse B&G Alumni Association. The Vipers earned the top seed from their pool and beat the Fliver All-Stars 8-6 in the semifinals. In the championship game, the Vipers lost 2-1 to the Shelby Youth Baseball Club. The Vipers’ only run came on a 325-foot home run by Austin Pippin.

Softball

The Union Grove Racers won the Pinto Division (ages 8-10) of the Racine County Girls’ Fastpitch League tournament held in mid-July at Fireman’s Park in Sturtevant. The Racers beat the Caledonia Daydreamers 13-7, the Wind Lake Angels 13-6 and the Caledonia Angels 8-1 to advance to the championship, where they beat the Caledonia Heartbreakers 11-4. The Racers lost only one game during the regular season, losing to the Caledonia Heartbreakers.
