Reigel relishes chance to play everybody

It isn’t often a college basketball coach can clear the bench and play the reserves extensively.
But UW-Parkside coach Luke Reigel got that opportunity Saturday.
Reigel got to play 13 players in the Rangers’ 104-52

Reigel started a lineup that consisted of Kyle Clark, Tyrone Deacon, Dave Keane, Mike Bendall and Brad Ferstenou. The most minutes any of those players played was 18 by Clark.
Reserve Matt Hein played the most minutes — 24 — for the Rangers. Hein finished with 16 points, hitting 6-of-9 field goals. He converted on 4-of-7 3-point attempts.
“Matt Hein came off the bench and did very well,’’ Reigel said.
Reigel also liked the performance of former Case High School standout Craig
Cunningham, who played 17 minutes and contributed 11 points and five rebounds, and freshman guard D.J. Dantzler, who played 21 minutes and led the Rangers with 21 points.
“Craig Cunningham did a good job on the offensive boards, and he (Dantzler) played well, too,’’ Reigel said. “He really gives us a change of pace off the bench with his defensive pressure.
“If he can stay focused for long periods of time, he could be really good.’’
Parkside led 5-4 early in the game before taking a 13-point lead midway through the first half. The Rangers led 58-21 at halftime.
Andy Brice led Silver Lake College (1-4) with 13 points.
The Rangers, who improved to 3-0, will have a much more difficult game Thursday night, when they open their Great Lakes Valley Conference season against Rockhurst at Kansas City, Mo.
Women
SAINT XAVIER 78, UW-PARKSIDE 73: The Rangers had to be a frustrated lot after losing this nonconference game at Chicago.
The Rangers (2-2) led
37-36 at halftime and stayed in front at 63-62 with 8:23 left in the game. But that’s when Saint Xavier rallied and moved to a six-point lead with 3:34
remaining.
But the Rangers countered and pulled within 75-73 with 1:33 to go on a 3-point basket by Amanda Gibson.
Saint Xavier then ran off five unanswered points for the
victory.
The Rangers were plagued by turnovers. They totaled 18 in the game compared to only eight for Saint Savier.
The Rangers had five players score in double figures, with Denise Mannella leading the way with 16 points.
Gibson added 14 points, Chelsey Schadler and Kayla Ming each scored 11 points and Mackenzie Heise totaled 10.
Manella was also Parkside’s leading rebounder with 11.
Saint Xavier (3-0) got 24 points from Kathlyn McClain.
Carthage women
CARTHAGE 73, WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 66: Lisa Garelos scored a game-high 18 points in leading the Lady Reds to a nonconference
victory at the Wisconsin Lutheran
Recreation Complex in Milwaukee.
Gartelos made five-of-eight field goal attempts in the game. Gartelos also grabbed five
rebounds.
The Lady Reds also got 13 points and four assists from Shana Lieberman, and 10 points and five rebounds from Carlie Janowiak.
Carthage, which led 32-23 at halftime, shot 42 percent from the field, making 24 of 57 shots.
Carthage is 2-0 overall.
Wisconsin Lutheran fell to 1-3.
