Mount Pleasant recount to continue Thursday

BY JOURNAL TIMES STAFF
Wednesday, April 9, 2008 4:35 PM CDT

The recount for the Mount Pleasant Village Board election held April 1 will continue into Thursday.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, the board of canvassers had gone through all of the poll lists and completed counting about one-fourth of the absentee ballots, according to Village Clerk Juliet Edmands. So far the numbers match up to the previous results, she said.

They will finish counting the absentee ballots Thursday and run them through the machines, and the recount is estimated to be finished at about noon.

The recount is in response to a petition filed by challenger Ruth Gedwardt, 1585 16th St., Monday. Gedwardt said she filed the petition after noticing votes for her dropped by over 350 from the February primary to the general election, according to unofficial results.
