Electrical fire in Sturtevant
BY JOURNAL TIMES STAFF
STURTEVANT — An electrical problem at a two-story home caused a blaze at about 12:18 p.m. Sunday, according to the Sturtevant Fire Department.
The home at 3816 Contessa Court started on fire from an electrical outlet malfunction, said Lt. Kevin Slotty, a fire investigator for the Sturtevant Fire Department.
The fire caused some internal and external damage and a lot of smoke damage to the dining area, Slotty said.
The Sturtevant Fire Department worked alongside the Mount Pleasant Fire Department and brought the fire under control in less than 20 minutes, Slotty said.
They worked with hoses inside and outside the house, Slotty said. They had to break down through internal drywall to get to the fire.
The house is currently uninhabitable, Slotty said, but it should be repairable.
