EAST TROY — A veteran skydiver is killed in southern Wisconsin when his parachute failed to open.
Fifty-three-year-old William Doherty of Janesville died Saturday afternoon in an accident that happened in a residential area about a mile west of the East Troy Municipal Airport.
Walworth County Coroner John Griebel says Doherty had been skydiving for more than 30 years. He was diving with the Sky Knights Sport Parachute Club, which uses the airport for takeoffs and landings.
Griebel says an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
