Car backs in squad; driver cited for OWI

David A. Schultz, 54, 1009 Coronado Drive, Caledonia, was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he allegedly backed his 1995 Pontiac Grand Am into a Racine patrol car at 10:35 a.m. Dec. 16 in the 1900 block of Charles Street.

According to a police accident report, an officer on patrol noticed the Grand Am travelling southbound on Charles at a high rate of speed. The officer activated his lights and siren in an effort to get the Pontiac to stop.

Reports said the Grand Am pulled into a driveway at 1915 Charles St. As the officer’s patrol car was swinging around to catch up with the car, the Grand Am suddenly backed into the squad. There were no injuries and damage to both vehicles was described as very minor.

Boats burglarized

Eight boats were found broken into Wednesday at Azarian Marina, 726 Water St. The incident mirrors boat burglaries discovered at the business on Dec. 12, police reports indicate.

At the time the most recent report was filed, marina owners were trying to contact boat owners to figure what may have been stolen. But in the Dec. 12 report, electronic items including flat screen televisions and radios were reported missing.

Owners of the boats reported burglarized Wednesday live in Roselle, Addison, Libertyville, Lake Villa and Mount Prospect Illinois. Four owners live in Racine, reports indicate.

Marina owners told police that the boats were kept in a fenced area on a back lot. There is speculation that burglars crossed ice on the river to gain entry to the lot.

One boat window was found broken as a result of the most recent burglaries.

Restaurant server duped with fake bill

Employees at the Taco Bell restaurant, 3358 Douglas Ave., reported taking a counterfeit $100 bill from a drive-through order Thursday morning.

According to police reports, an order taker said she suspected the bill was phony, but nonetheless took it for an $18.77 order and gave the occupants of the car $81.23 in change. Restaurant employees took a license plate from the suspects’ car, but police said the temporary plate had possibly been altered as numbers didn’t match the state’s registration database.

Home found burglarized

A mobile phone valued at $300, a DVD player valued at $100 and jewelry of an undetermined value were taken in an apparent burglary that occurred between 9 a.m. and 7:10 p.m. at a residence in the 2000 block of Rupert Boulevard.

According to police, burglars apparently used a flathead screw driver or similar device to gain entry to a door on the south side of the residence.

Students found with knife at school

Two 12-year-old students, one a boy and the other a girl, were arrested on a juvenile hold for possession of a dangerous weapon on school property after police investigated a report of a student with a knife just after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Starbuck Middle School, 1516 Ohio St.

According to police reports, a kitchen paring knife with a 3-1/2 inch blade was found in the girl’s back pack.

The youths said the knife was put in the backpack to hide it after it allegedly fell from the boy’s pocket. He said he had put it in his clothes after eating cheese and crackers at home.

The juveniles were brought to the Racine County Sheriff’s station for photos and fingerprints and then taken to juvenile detention.
