Appointments and promotions: Careers Industries has hired Jamie Anderson as a case manager. Prior to joining Careers Industries, Anderson worked as a case manager for the Workforce Development Center.

Jim Olson has been named executive vice president/partner at TWP Architecture. Olson's 15-year history as a registered architect is highlighted by numerous awards, outstanding client relationships and public recognition including one of the Business Journal's "Forty Under 40" in 2006.

Joseph Vitale Jr. has been appointed to the position of Midwest regional sales representative at Spee-Dee Packaging Machinery Inc. Vitale's industry experience includes sales positions with a manufacturer and distributor of reusable plastic containers for business-to-business applications as well as a manufacturer of quality control inspection equipment for high speed filling lines in the beverage industry.

Honors and Awards: Katherine Hermansen, vice president of clinical performance excellence at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, has received the 2008 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The award celebrates outstanding accomplishments by UW-Madison College of Engineering Alumni.

Elections: Jerry Hardacre II was elected as the 52nd president of the Midwest Surgical Association. Hardacre has been a member of the Midwest Surgical Association since 1993 and has served on its council, was a treasurer from 2005-07 and president-elect in 2008. In his new position, he will oversee the business and other affairs of the association through August 2009.
