The program provides businesses with $2,500 to pay for costs related to training, consultants, marketing plans and other services that will help minority-owned companies stay in business, County Executive Bill McReynolds said.
The program began in 2006. Its 2007 budget is $25,000, plus some funds carried over from last year.
A dollar store and electrical services company were among the companies to receive grants last year.
The grant program is managed for Racine County by UW-Parkside's Small Business Development Center. Minority-owned businesses based in Racine County interested in the program should contact SBDC's Deneine Powell for more information and an application. She can be reached at (262) 898-7414 or by e-mail at
- Minority-owned businesses with fewer than 200 employees are eligible for a matching grant program created by Racine County with help from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Small Business Development Center and the Racine County Economic Development Corp.
