GLAD YOU ASKED: Since both St. Catherine’s and Horlick high schools made it to the state basketball tournament, it would be cool to see the two teams play each other in an exhibition game. Is this possible?

Don't take the vague wording of the question as a slight to either team. It was submitted before the Angels won the Division 3 title and the Rebels made it to the Division 1 final.

A showdown between those two heavyweights would be cool. And dangerous.

The WIAA has rules that would almost certainly prohibit something like that from being done outside the official season, both Chuck Wood and Jay Hammes said. They're the athletic director for St. Catherine's and activities director for Horlick, respectively.

Hammes agreed it might have been an intriguing idea had both won the state championships, but he said seniors would likely be the only ones allowed to participate. They've got no high school eligibility left to worry about.

"It wouldn't have been the way people wanted it to be played," Hammes said.

St. Catherine's used to participate in the annual holiday tournament Horlick hosted, but the alumni will have to settle this one out of court. Sometimes those debates are better left unsolved. Did "Alien vs. Predator" resolve anything?

Does the Racine County Convention and Visitors Bureau have anything set up in case Chicago is awarded the Olympics?

Executive Director Dave Blank said he offered Racine as a possible site for triathlon or beach volleyball events, since similar events are already held here. The Spirit of Racine Triathlon is actually longer than the Olympic one, he said.

Chicago plans to hog most of the events if it gets the 2016 Summer Olympics, but Blank said the ripples would definitely be felt here. He worked in Utah when Salt Lake was awarded the 2002 Winter Games and remembers Las Vegas and Yellowstone National Park receiving major spikes in traffic.

"And those places are nowhere near Salt Lake City," he said.

Besides booked hotels throughout Racine County, Blank envisions athletes training here. A planned Olympic-size swimming pool at the Razor Sharp Fitness Center in Mount Pleasant should attract some countries' swimmers, he said.

The Games are a multibillion-dollar proposition for Chicago, which some articles have described as the front-runner. The International Olympic Committee's final decision is scheduled for October.

What is the history of the building at 18th and Mead streets?

Johnny Green submitted this question. He's the worshipful master for a fraternal group called Southgate Lodge No. 6. The organization now uses the building at 1846 and 1848 Mead St., and Green would like to hear from anyone who knows the history of the building before the Prince Hall Masons bought it in the 1960s.

Older city directories list a Polish hall at 1844 Mead St., which may have been the same structure. This could help the leaders determine whether to sell the building, so please pass along any information.

Muscat raisin update

A reader responded to a recent question about where to find muscat raisins. Employees at Tenuta's Delicatessen & Liquors, 3203 52nd St. in Kenosha, confirmed the store carries the plump, golden, seeded ones in one-pound bags.
