Let's check Billy Joel's work. Is "Honesty" still such a lonely word?
Deborah Krogh has an answer. She accidentally left behind a wallet while shopping for clothes. Her tale went up for discussion on the Mount Pleasant Web log.
"The person who picked it up had a decision to make," she wrote. "Either hand it in to the store or walk out with it."
The contestant picked door B. That meant Krogh was out cash, credit cards and license. The episode left her wondering if any honest people are left.
They still exist. It's just a crapshoot whether they get there first.
They couldn't for blogger HSMom. She shared the story of forgetting a jacket she had taken off and finding no trace of it when she returned to the store.
"It was just an old, thin, tan jacket!" she wrote, seeming more confused than irritated. "Why would someone need to take it?!"
Surprisingly, most responses showed "the flip side." Different stores, same result.
"I dropped my wallet a couple of winters ago at Racine Produce," MR wrote. "Someone from their store actually brought it to my house. When I offered them some cash as a reward, they refused."
See, Billy? You're not the only one who's "An Innocent Man."

A Raymond rebuttal
A blogger known as The Shadow wrote in to counter town board member Paul Ryan's recent blog post explaining the current push to cut committees that are deemed unnecessary.
"If he and the board had such a problem with these committees," the writer wondered, "why didn't they have the guts to meet with them and tell them what they needed from these people?"
The post accused Ryan of acting simply "to cover his butt."
"People give of their time, talent and treasure to help the community, and to help keep their taxes down," it continued, "… and he has taken away that spirit."

Here, deer, deer
Hunting season is a few months and a few dozen degrees away, but it was on the mind of a reader known as FishingMan last week. Bait is essential to his hobby, but he wondered aloud why people would want to bait deer.
Besides pointing out the fact it's illegal in many spots (including Racine County), he baited those who do it with a jab at their pride.
"Does the deer have to be that close," he asked, because those hunters are "a bad shot?"
Hunters didn't find the scent of his post, but interested reader LEROYBEANS did. To him, it doesn't seem sporting. Baiting struck him as no different from "going to the store to get your meat, waiting for the 'right' one to stop by."
Another non-hunter was confused what they use as bait. Hint: This kind won't squirm in your hand.
