Racine residents who are interested in attending the Chicago Peace Rally on Oct. 27, take note: The Racine Coalition for Peace and Justice has charted a bus for the trip.
Chicago is the location of one of 11 regional peace rallies that will be held around the country that Saturday. On Oct. 27 the bus will pick up riders at the Ives Grove park and ride at 10 a.m. and the Hardee's at the corner of Green Bay Road and Washington Avenue at 10:30 a.m. It will return by 8 p.m.
The rally will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Chicago's Union Park. From there demonstrators will march 1.7 miles to Chicago's Loop for a rally at Federal Plaza. Organizers expect several thousand protesters from around the Midwest to attend. At least 20 buses will make the trip from Wisconsin.
The Racine group is one of several organizations endorsing the rally, and an affiliate of United for Peace and Justice, the nation's largest anti-war coalition. More information about the rally is available at
http://www.oct27chicago.org
The cost of the trip from Racine is $20. Some scholarship assistance is available for young people interested in attending.

Family ties
Like most sisters, Racine resident Debbie Carriveau and her sister, Julie, are close. And Friday they became even closer when Julie married Debbie's brother-in-law, Troy Carriveau.
Julie and Troy were married at the Oak Creek Community Center with siblings as their attendants, an honor Julie and Troy performed for Debbie and her husband, John, on Aug. 5, 1995.
"Julie and Troy stood up together at our wedding and they were not a couple," Debbie said. "Now my sister and I will also be sisters-in-laws and John and Troy will be brothers-in-law. My kids, Brandon and Emily Carriveau, think it's cool that their aunt and uncle are getting married and nothing changes for them; they are still Auntie Julie and Uncle Troy to them."
Debbie said the only question the kids had was: Which side of the aisle did they sit on for the wedding?
More chicken soup
Racine author Delores Liesner is at it again - adding her special touch to the newly released "Chicken Soup for the Soul Kids in the Kitchen." Liesner contributed two original short stories to the latest book in the New York Times best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Liesner wrote "The Royal Baker and Pasties," and "The Honey Apple-Pie Cure."
