RACINE - Liz Powell was elected president of the Junior League of Racine for the 2008-2009 year at the annual meeting at Racine Country Club.

Other officers elected are: Amy Haertel, president-elect; Carrie Johnson, executive treasurer; Jessica Lynott, recording secretary; Kristin Chapman, corresponding secretary; and Barb Feider, sustaining advisor.

Committee chairpersons are: Carol Kinsley, community Research; Connie Shannon and Kelly Tempesta, community impact; Sheila Bugalecki, communications; Molly Buhler, program; Simone Fletcher, membership development; Cynde Summers, nominating/placement; Heather Dickert, information technology; and Dawn Knutson and Dawn Patzke, fund development.

The Junior League of Racine has been serving the community since 1916.

It is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and a commitment to volunteerism.

The Junior League's focus on children is demonstrated in past projects.

Junior League took an active roll in the North Park beach Playground including both volunteer hours and a monetary commitment.

Junior League also provided funds to the Racine Heritage Museum, Women's Resource Center, MargaretAnn's Place, Youth Connections, Girl Scouts of Southeastern Wisconsin and Racine Family Literacy.

The Junior League supports its projects through numerous fundraisers such as Blue Jeans, Bunco and Bling, Barnes & Noble (Dec. 15) and the annual Wine Tasting (Feb. 13). Volunteers also contribute thousands of hours to the Racine community.
