Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Fliess of 416 144th Ave., Union Grove, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary during a dinner Nov. 7 with friends and family at the Paris Town Hall. The celebration will continue with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at St. John the Baptist Church in Paris, where they are members.

Fliess and the former Laydene Prott were married Nov. 19, 1949, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Brighton.

The couple are natives of Kenosha County but have lived in the Racine area for 60 years.

Fliess, 85, has been a farmer and still helps farm with his son.

He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Associated Milk Producers Inc. Milk Association and the Union Grove Coop. A member of the Holy Name Society, he was an usher at his church for 50 years.

Mrs. Fliess, 83, has been a homemaker and helped her husband farm. She is a member of the Christian Mothers Altar Society. Her hobbies include crocheting, knitting and reading. 

The couple enjoys working in the garden.

They have six children: Judy (Dick) Peterson of Viroqua; Mary (Neil) Tomczak of Racine; Carol Squires and Connie (Joel) Minton of Union Grove; and Jerry (Cheryl) and Rosalie (Ray) Olszewski of Paris. Mr. and Mrs. Fliess have 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

When asked what has kept them together all of these years the couple wrote, “Having a close and loving relationship with each other and our children and their families. Having a family that prays together stays together.”
