BARIATRIC SURGERY informational SESSION: Nearly 16 million Americans are affected by severe obesity, a chronic, metabolic condition that is caused by a number of factors, but is most closely linked to genetics. Severe obesity puts people at high risk for stroke, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and other weight-related conditions. The Aurora Sinai Bariatric Program with Dr. Thomas Chua at Aurora Sinai Medical Center has been designated a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery. The bariatric surgeon works closely with clinical coordinators, nutritionists, psychologists and physician assistants to develop personalized treatment plans for each patient. COLORECTAL SCREENING INFORMATION SEMINAR: Free seminars on the latest screening procedures for colorectal cancer and the importance of prevention and early detection will be presented by two physicians. 6-7:15 p.m. March 12. Free. Registration is required.
Baby Signs Parent Workshop: Learn how to talk with your baby before your baby can talk to you. The Baby Signs Program is designed for parents of children from birth to 24 months to attend with their child. Learn how to reduce frustration and build trust, strengthen the parent/infant bond, help babies learn to talk and promote positive emotional development. Hatha Yoga: Certified instructor Bruce Van Dyke will teach breathing exercises and various selected postures that stretch and flex the spine, muscles and nerves, and also regulate the involuntary processes of respiration, blood circulation and metabolism. World Glaucoma Day: A global initiative to raise awareness of glaucoma - the second leading cause of blindness in the United States and worldwide. Center for Women and Infants Tour: Tour the Center for Women and Infants. Visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with the location and see first hand where to park, entrances and location of service. A nurse will be available in each of the areas to answer questions. Acupuncturists Without Borders
Acupuncture treatments: These free treatments for veterans and their families will help to reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep and help relieve post-combat stress and trauma. Treatments of five small needles placed in each ear last 20-40 minutes. All needles are pre-packaged, sterile and disposed of after use. 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesdays at Partners in Health Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Clinic and Community Acupuncture, 4344 Douglas Ave. Donations will be accepted to help fund supplies and support new veterans clinics opening nationwide as part of Acupuncturists Without Borders.
