EMPOWERING AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN PROGRAM: "Sharing the Story - Caring for our Health." The primary focus of the Jane Cremer Foundation is to educate women to become proactive in managing their own health care and to lead the way to early detection in the event of cancer. The Rev. Olen Arrington Jr. will share his story about his own cancer journey and how important it is to talk with others.
Dr. Julie Bryson, a psycho-oncologist, will speak about how to relate with people who have cancer, are going through treatment and returning to work. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. The Second Baptist Church Praise Dancers will provide entertainment at 6 p.m. Health care resource information and refreshments will be available after the presentation. 6:30 p.m. March 26. Caledonia/Mount Pleasant Health Department
IMMUNIZATIONS: Immunizations for children and adults are offered at regularly scheduled clinics. Fees are $10 for all Caledonia, Mount Pleasant, Sturtevant and North Bay residents; $15 for all non-residents. Fee is exempt for Badgercare and Medicaid patients.
Immunizations include varicella (Chickenpox), DTaP, Td, polio, HIB, MMR and hepatitis B. Immunizations for adults include tetanus and hepatitis B. TB skin tests are offered by appointment only by calling (262) 835-6429. Clients must return to the health department 48-72 hours later for the test to be read. All clinics will be held at the Caledonia/Mount Pleasant Health department, 10005 Northwestern Ave. (second floor of the U.S. Bank building), Caledonia. The immunization schedule is:
- First Thursday of the month, 4-5 p.m.
- Second Monday of the month, 4-5:30 p.m.
- Third Thursday of the month, 10-11 a.m.
- Fourth Thursday of the month, 4-5:30 p.m.
City of Racine Health Department
IMMUNIZATION CLINICS: The City of Racine offers immunization clinics in the City Hall Room 4, 730 Washington Ave., on the days listed. A $7 fee is requested for residents of the city of Racine, Elmwood Park and Wind Point; and $15 for non-residents; however, there is no charge if people are unable to pay. People should bring their child's current immunization records.
- Tuesdays - 4-6 p.m.
- Wednesdays - 1:15-4 p.m.
BLOOD PRESSURE CLINICS: The City of Racine Health Department will offer blood pressure screening by appointment for City of Racine, Elmwood Park and Wind Point residents. Call (262) 636-9431.
Visiting Nurse Community Care Inc.
HEALTH SCREENINGS: Visiting Nurse Community Care Inc. provides diagnostic health screens weekly from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays and 2 to 4 p.m. Fridays at the offices of Nutritional Designs & Pharmacy, 2333 Northwestern Ave. For information and appointments, call (262) 656-8400.
Kenosha Visiting Nurse Association
SHINGLES VACCINATIONS: People who have had chickenpox are at risk for shingles. The risk for shingles increases as a person gets older. Shingles is painful and can cause serious problems. There is no way to tell who will get shingles or when it may occur. A single dose of shingles vaccine is recommended for adults age 60 and older and for those who have not had shingles. It is a one-time vaccination. Fee: $225. The Kenosha Visiting Nurse Association offices are at 600 52nd St., Suite 300, Kenosha. Immunizations Clinics
Children's vaccines include: chickenpox, diphtheria, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, Hib meningitis, HPV, measles, meningococcal, mumps, pertussis, pneumococcal, polio, rotavirus, rubella and tetanus. Resident fees: Administration fee is $10 per visit. Maximum charge of $30 for a resident family. Resident's fees will be waived in the event of financial difficulties. Non-resident fees: Administration fee is $15 per visit. Maximum charge $45 for a non-resident family. Adults: Tetanus, administration fee charged; hepatitis B, $50 for resident, $55 others; and TB skin test (must call 24 hours in advance to schedule), $15 residents and $25 others.
