UW-Parkside exhibition features UW-Eau Claire artist Jill Olm
SOMERS - The University of Wisconsin-Parkside opens its 2009-2010 fine art season with an exhibition of works by Wisconsin artist Jill Olm. Titled "Distractions & Diversions," the exhibition opens Tuesday, Sept. 1, and continues through Sept. 24 in the UW-Parkside Communication Arts Gallery, 900 Wood Road.
An Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Olm explores a wide range of techniques in her paintings, drawings, and video work. Her major focus is on mark-making.
"I am interested in the activity of mark-making as it pertains to social, geographical, and anthropological patternings," Olm said of her abstract works. "In never revealing the specifics or particularities of these systems, I encourage the viewer to actively pursue an imaginative and associative dialogue with the work."
In addition to teaching, Olm has exhibited her art across the country.
The opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8. Gallery hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There is no admission fee.
