WIND LAKE - The Franklin man who crashed his motorcycle after an 8 1/2-mile chase earlier this month now faces felony charges for the incident.
Scott R. Hesse, 44, is charged with fleeing from an officer and second-degree recklessly endangering safety. If convicted he could face up to $35,000 in fines, 13 1/2 years imprisonment and driver's license revocation. He also has open speeding cases in Racine and Waukesha counties.
According to court records:
A Racine County Sheriff's deputy tried to stop Hesse's motorcycle after seeing it speeding north on Highway 36 about 4:30 p.m. Aug. 11. The deputy ultimately pursued Hesse for 8 1/2 miles, reaching speeds of about 100 mph as they crossed into Waukesha County. During the pursuit, the deputy said Hesse was driving recklessly, and passing between cars in different lanes of traffic. There, after turning onto Highway OO, he then started to wobble, crossed the centerline and crashed. Flight For Life was called to take Hesse to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa after the crash. He was seriously injured, according to prior Journal Times reports.
