Man facing child abuse charge
Police received a call at 5:09 p.m. Wednesday that a man was allegedly beating his child in a vehicle outside of the Village Clean laundry mat, 224 S. Pine St. The witness said he could hear the young boy screaming.
Police said the suspect left the parking lot westbound on Pine Street and then southbound on State Street when officers encountered the vehicle.
Steven Henningfeld, 40, of Burlington, was cited for physical abuse to a child. He was transported to the Racine County Jail.

Report of fuel spill leads to arrest
A 45-year-old Burlington man called for assistance at 9:17 p.m. Wednesday to report a van leaking large amounts of fuel in the parking lot at the Vista gas station, 364 Milwaukee Ave. City firefighters were called to help contain the spill.
As police wrote a report on the incident, they realized that the caller, Thomas Bidlack, 45, of Burlington, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of the Elkhorn Police Department. Bidlak was taken to the Burlington police station, where he posted bond and was released.

Racial slurs written on garage
Police were called to a home in the 10000 block of Dunkelow Road Thursday for a home owner reporting graffiti on his garage.
Reports said the graffiti were racial slurs written in black permanent marker. The owner of the home is Hispanic.

Handgun stolen from apartment
A resident of a home in the 8600 block of E. Frontage Road reported his .45-caliber semiautomatic handgun stolen from his apartment between Aug. 15 and Monday, according to Caledonia police.
Reports said the man's gun is worth an estimated $750. The owner told officers his landlord has been bringing people into his apartment over the past two weeks to show it, because he is selling the house.

Two homes burglarized
on same street, day
Two homes on North Green Bay Road were reported burglarized Wednesday, according to Mount Pleasant police.
Reports said officers were called to the first, in the 1400 block, just before noon. The home owner said he had been away since Monday morning, but his mother stopped at his home Tuesday and everything was fine.
Police said the man came home Wednesday to discover his back screen door and back door open. The window had been broken out of the back door.
Reported stolen from the home were two men's rings, worth an estimated $125.
A few minutes after the first report was made, officers were called to the 1600 block of N. Green Bay Road for a second burglary report.
In that case, $500 worth of coins in a large water jug were taken from a bedroom. Police said the burglar apparently used a chair to gain access to a back window of the house.

Tools taken from van
About $1,500 worth of tools were taken from a van parked in the 3900 block of Linderman Avenue between Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday at 7 a.m.
Racine police said someone smashed a window in the van to gain access to the contents. The tools were removed from a storage box in the van.

Student accused of spraying slippery substance on staircase
A student at Park High School, 2301 12th St., allegedly sprayed an oily substance on two staircases back in June, causing two school officials to fall, according to a report filed with Racine police Tuesday.
The report said the incident was caught on tape. The slippery steps caused both Principal Keith Mosley and a hall monitor to fall. Both suffered minor injuries.

Man accused of burglary
Police arrested Darnell W. Collins, 44, of 1534 Melvin Ave. early Thursday morning after he allegedly broke into KZ Heating, 2226 Douglas Ave.
Reports said Collins was arrested for criminal damage to property and burglary.
Police were called to KZ Heating at 1:42 a.m. for a report of a burglary alarm sounding. An employee and key holder to the business met officers at the scene, and said they had seen a black man wearing a light blue shirt and light blue hat exiting the building when they arrived.
Inside the building, officers found damage to two windows, the alarm system - which had been ripped off the wall - a computer and office furniture. There was also blood drops, suggesting the offender had injured himself during the break-in.
A short time later, officers located Collins near Yout Street and Douglas Avenue. Reports said he matched the description of the suspect and was bleeding from his hand.

Items stolen from boat at marina
A 1929 classic dinghy boat, a set of antique oars and four boat fenders, worth an estimated $3,180, were stolen off a boat docked at Azarian's Marina, 726 Water Street sometime between Thursday and Friday, according to Racine police.
The theft was reported to police on Monday.

Man arrested on suspicion
of child abuse
Mbala V. Williams, 35, of 1418 Cleveland Ave., was arrested Monday after a family member reported he had physically abused a 10-year-old boy.
Racine police went to Williams home to check the welfare of the child. Reports said the officers saw red welts on the boy's arms and legs.
Williams allegedly told police he had disciplined the child, resulting in the injuries.

Woman assaulted on Park Avenue
A 50-year-old woman was assaulted Sunday during a robbery attempt, police said.
The woman told officers she was walking home from Matranga's Food Mart and was in the 1100 block of Park Avenue when the two suspects approached her from behind. Reports said they asked her for money and she told them she only had 35 cents.
Police said one of the suspects punched the woman in the face, causing her to fall to the ground. She told officers the second suspect then punched her twice. Reports said she screamed and the suspects fled east on 12th Street.

Computer, watches stolen
A computer and two watches, worth an estimated total of $4,800, were stolen from a home in the 2900 block of Concord Drive between 2 p.m. Monday and 1 a.m. Tuesday, according to Racine police.
Reports said when a resident of the house came home he found a window open and the house disturbed. Police found a storage box and a planter in the back yard had been used to access the window.

Safe stolen from apartment
A safe containing $6,050 in cash was stolen from an apartment in the 1500 block of Taylor Avenue Tuesday between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., according to Racine police.
Reports said the resident of the apartment left to go have cancer treatments. When he returned he found the window of his back door had been smashed, and his apartment had been burglarized.

Jewelry stolen from home
Jewelry worth an estimated $8,350, was reported stolen from a home in the 1200 block of Grand Avenue Monday at 8:15 p.m. Reports said the jewelry was taken off a coffee table in the living room.
