RACINE - Community members interested in working to address the city's infant mortality problem are invited to get involved in the Racine Infant Mortality Coalition.

The RIMC is looking for people to help with its outreach programs, aimed at getting helpful information to the people who need it most. Racine has one of the state's highest infant mortality rates, with a disproportionate number of babies born to black women dying before their first birthday. The group wants to reach out to the community to learn more about what people in the affected group really need.

If interested in serving on a committee, contact the person listed. The next meeting will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, at Next Generation Now, 1220 Mound Ave.

n Raising awareness of the causes of infant death, Nick Hempel, (262) 634-2580.

n Educating people on healthy pregnancies, Kim Dyer, (262) 639-6570.

n Teaching about infant care and healthy families, Pat Anderson, (262) 619-2507.

n Encouraging local involvement and support, Betty Williams, (262) 638-6531.

People are also welcome to serve on the coalition itself. Contact Thelma Jones at (262) 636-9490 for information about the RIMC.
