Two cars set on fire Friday morning

RACINE - Racine police and firefighters were called to two different reports of suspicious car fires Friday morning.

Reports said police and fire personnel responded to a call at 5:09 a.m. to the 1600 block of Harmoney Drive for a car on fire in a driveway. When they arrived the 2002 Chevy Malibu was engulfed in flames.

Police said the owner of the vehicle, which was parked in the driveway of 1618 Harmony Drive, heard the car horn going off, saw the car on fire and called 911.

Two hours later police were called to the 1500 block of North Street for a report that a car had been broken into and then set on fire. Officers said someone took the radar detector from the 1990 Honda Accord and then started a fire in the backseat.

Reports said the owner of the car called authorities after he went to get into the vehicle Friday morning and found the damage. The fire apparently put itself out.

Man assaulted by roommate

RACINE - Police said a 54-year-old man suffered a serious head laceration after an altercation with his roommate Saturday night.

Officers were called to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital, 3801 Spring St. at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Reports said the victim had gotten into an argument with his roommate at their residence in the 1100 block of St. Patrick Street. During the fight, the roommate allegedly pushed the man and then struck him in the head with a metal object, possibly a pipe.

A friend took the man to the hospital. Reports said it took four staples to close the man's wound.

Man cut with knife during robbery

RACINE - A 53-year-old man told Racine police he was attacked with a butcher-style knife and robbed of his cash Saturday night while walking through an alley in the 1500 block of Phillips Avenue.

Reports said the man had just left a friend's house around 6:05 p.m. when he was approached from behind by the suspect. The victim told police he had $35 in cash in his hand, which he was counting, when the suspect asked him for money.

Police said when the man refused, the suspect pulled out a knife and swung it at the man, cutting his arm.

According to reports, the victim dropped his money and fled. He was taken to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital for treatment of the injury.

Attempted drug deal leads to serious assault

RACINE - Police said a man who was trying to buy drugs in the 600 block of 12th Street Saturday night was seriously injured by two suspects.

Reports said the 45-year-old man was found lying unconscious on the ground by officers around 9:55 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses told police they heard the man arguing with two other men and then saw them fighting. The two suspects allegedly "stomped" on the victim before running off.

Police said the man told officers he was trying to by crack cocaine from the suspects, but when he pulled out his wallet, they started to hit him. The man suffered a broken neck, cut to the head, facial swelling and a possible concussion in the assault.

Woman struck in face with broken bottle

RACINE - A 48-year-old woman was hit in the face with a broken beer bottle Sunday morning in the 900 block of 11th Street, according to Racine police.

Reports said officers were called to the area at 2:12 a.m. and found the woman bleeding from the face. She told them she was attacked by a man who said she owed him $40, but didn't know where the assault had taken place.

Residents of the area told police they heard arguing and then a woman pounding on the door of a home. They called 911.

Police found blood and the broken bottle in front of a house at 919 11th St.

The woman was taken to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital for treatment of a laceration and swollen left eye.

Argument at party leads to assault

RACINE - Three men told Racine police they were assaulted at a party Sunday morning in the 2900 block of Waterview Circle.

Reports said one of the men said something to another man at the party, prompting a group of about nine people to start beating up the three victims, ages 23, 21 and 20.

All three men were taken to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital. One suffered swelling to the face and abrasions to his elbows. Another had chipped teeth and a swollen face. The third was the most seriously injured. He suffered a broken and dislocated jaw in the attack, reports said.

Masked gunmen rob man at home

RACINE - Police said a man sitting in his residence using the computer was confronted by two masked gunmen Sunday morning.

Reports said the 22-year-old was chatting online when the two suspects entered through the front door. Both of the men were armed with handguns and demanded money and weed from the victim. He told police they pushed him down on the ground and put a gun to his head.

According to reports, the men took $325 and a cell phone from the residence before fleeing. The man was not injured.

Gunshot reported at Layard Avenue apartment

RACINE - Police were called to an apartment in the 2200 block of Layard Avenue Sunday night for a report of a gunshot.

Reports said a resident of the apartment was asleep in bed at 11:55 p.m. when she heard a loud bang. She told officers she got up and called relatives, and then called police.

Officers found a bullet hole in the ceiling of the apartment. Reports said the gunfire may have come from the apartment directly above the victim's.

Man assaulted with baseball bat

RACINE - A 26-year-old man was apparently jumped and struck with a baseball bat Monday night in the 2800 block of Jacato Drive.

Racine police were called to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital for a man with a laceration to his head.

Reports said the man was brought into the hospital by two unknown men, who put him in a wheelchair and left him there.

Friends of the injured man told police he was assaulted with a baseball bat.
