SOMERS - An 83-year-old Racine man died Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Sheridan Road and 16th Street in the town of Somers.
Kenosha County sheriff's deputies said witnesses told them James Ellis was driving north on Sheridan Road when his Lincoln drifted left of the center line. The car then veered back right, accelerating.
Reports said the car struck a utility pole on the right shoulder, causing the vehicle to spin around and stop in the center of the road.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Authorities and rescue personnel were called to the scene at 7:18 a.m. Upon their arrival, they found the man had no pulse. Rescue crews worked on Ellis and transported him to Kenosha Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Reports said the man was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Deputies are investigating the possibility that the man may have suffered from a medical problem.
No further information was available Thursday afternoon.
