RACINE

More meter thefts reported

Police took a report of another six parking meters being broken into between 10:07 and 10:23 a.m. Tuesday morning. Reports said the meters, located in the YMCA parking lot at 725 Lake Ave., were pried open. Approximately $20 to $60 in change was stolen.

Racine police have taken numerous reports of parking meter thefts in recent weeks.

Teens arrested for robbery, assault

Three teens were arrested Tuesday after they allegedly attempted to rob a 16-year-old boy in the 1800 block of Mount Pleasant Street.

The boys, all age 16, were charged with party to the crimes of attempted strong armed robbery, battery and recklessly endangering safety, according to Racine police.

Reports said officers were called to the 1800 block of Mount Pleasant Street at 3 p.m. The victim told police he was walking and listening to his MP-3 player when four suspects approached him. One of the teens asked the victim for a dollar. When he told them he didn't have one, they demanded he empty his pockets and give them his MP-3 player, police said.

One of the suspects allegedly put the victim in a choke hold while another suspect punched him in the face. Reports said they did not take anything from the teen.

Police were given descriptions of the suspects and located three of the teens, who were taken into custody.

Stitches required after assault

A 15-year-old boy was attacked Tuesday at the intersection of Summit Avenue and High Street, Racine police said.

The boy told officers he was walking north on Summit when he crossed paths with the suspect, who was walking west on High Street. Reports said the suspect starting calling the teen names and then took a swing at him.

The boy told police he dodged the first punch, but was hit in the face when the suspect swung at him again.

Police said the teen was taken to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints hospital, 3801 Spring St., by family. He received stitches to close a wound near his mouth.

The boy told officers he did not know the suspect and the attack was done without provocation.

Park equipment vandalized

Eleven camp site identification boxes were removed or broken some time between Monday and Tuesday at Sanders Park, 4809 Wood Road, the Racine County Sheriff's Department reported.

Damage estimates are pegged at between $400 and $500, county parks staff said.

Deputies said screws from the boxes were located in fire pits at the park.

Hundreds of pallets stolen

Sturtevant police took two reports recently regarding pallets stolen from local businesses.

Tuesday afternoon, officers took a report regarding the theft of 100 pallets, collectively valued at $750, from the rear of the Andis Corp.'s facility at 1800 Renaissance Blvd.

Video surveillance shows the pallets were taken after 12:24 p.m. Sunday. The video shows an old grey and black pickup leaving with pallets and returning two hours later to get another road.

Village police also took a report Sept. 12 of the theft of 500 wood pallets, valued at $2,500, and six stainless steel baker racks, valued at $4,200, from outside the building at Lehmann's Bakery, 9117 Durand Ave.

Traffic equipment taken

Two traffic barricades with flashing lights, valued at $500, were taken some time over the weekend from the intersection of 92nd Street and Mount Pleasant Avenue. Staff from the Racine Wastewater Utility reported the theft to village police Monday morning.

Suspicious behavior results in arrest

Carl D. Mackey, 49, 2000 Dekoven Avenue, Racine, is facing pending charges of resisting arrest, obstructing, attempted theft, trespassing and disorderly conduct, after a village police officer observed a man at 6:17 p.m. Monday on a bike and wearing a rain coat allegedly taking mail from a mailbox in the 4000 block of Sheridan Road and abruptly putting it back.

Mackey allegedly tried to flee officers, but eventually was caught up with in the vicinity of Edgewater Drive.

Brother and sister arrested after crash

Two arrests of people from the same family resulted after village police investigated a rollover crash at 1:38 a.m. Sunday on Highway 31 a quarter mile north of Highway KR.

According to a witness, a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero heading northbound on Highway 31 veered to the right and then rolled over in the east ditch.

Somers rescue crews, who responded due to initial confusion on the crash location, took the sole occupant of the car, Jessica Talamentez, 28, 1114 Rode Ave., Racine, for treatment at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints hospital, 3801 Spring St., Racine.

She was subsequently charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and operating a vehicle after revocation second offense.

When Talamentez's brother, Manuel, came to pick her up from the hospital, police checked his driving status and found he was wanted by Racine Police on a battery warrant. Manuel Talamentez, 26, same address, was turned over to Racine authorities.

Alleged shoplifter facing charges

Michael R. Jeter, 45, 2132 Center St., Racine, is facing pending charges of retail theft, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property after an incident just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hobby Lobby store, 5415 Washington Ave.

Store personnel allegedly caught Jeter trying to leave with $123 in merchandise.

Jeter was taken to a back room, where he allegedly implied threats to store personnel and at one point allegedly implied he had a knife. He also allegedly caused $1,000 in damage to the store before village police took him into custody.

Dog training equipment missing

Electronic dog training aids, valued at $2,740, were reported missing on the afternoon of Sept. 12 from a display case at the Petco store, 3059 S. Oakes Road. The merchandise was last seen on Sept. 11, store personnel told village police.

No pry marks were found on the display case, which was not located in view of store video surveillance cameras.

Store personnel told police that a similar incident had occurred at the Petco store in Kenosha.

Store personnel who were on duty Sept. 11 were to be interviewed, reports indicated. Also, an animal vaccination clinic was held at the store the night of Sept. 11, during which several people entered the store with pet carriers.
