Young girl allegedly admitted selling drug in Burlington area
BURLINGTON - A 13-year-old rural Burlington girl has been taken into custody on pending charges of possession of cocaine with intent to deliver as a result of contraband Burlington city police found during a traffic stop early Thursday morning.
An 18-year-old Racine man is facing numerous charges, including the same possession of cocaine with intent to deliver charge and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, in connection to the same incident.
City police were alerted at 12:25 a.m. Thursday of a possible reckless driver heading westbound on Highway 11 into the city. About the time police were notified, a Town of Burlington police officer was traveling on Highway 11 near the suspect vehicle. He alerted city officers as to which way the car was heading and officers caught up with the car at the Burlington McDonald's parking lot at Jefferson and Dodge streets.
Police took the teens into custody after realizing that the car's license plate was not the assigned plate and after realizing that the girl, a resident of the unincorporated Honey Lake community northwest of Burlington, was in violation of curfew.
The driver, Michael J. Johann, 18, 2525 Jacato Drive, Racine, also told police that there was a loaded BB gun in his trunk, so he was arrested on pending charges of carrying a concealed weapon.
At the scene of the arrest, the girl, who lives on the Walworth County side of Honey Lake, allegedly turned over to police a bag with a white powdery substance and an index card folded over a green leafy substance.
At the city police station, two more bags of the powdery substance, which police later determined to be cocaine, fell from the girl's pants as she was being searched. Police then checked the scene of the traffic stop and found yet another bag on the pavement.
A more thorough search of the girl was ordered and, at that time, she allegedly took five more bags of cocaine from the crotch of her pants.
During an interview, the girl allegedly admitted going to Racine on a regular basis to purchase cocaine, which she then allegedly sold in the Burlington area.
After consulting with Racine County Human Services staff, the girl was taken to the juvenile detention facility in Racine.
Johann was taken to the Racine County Jail. He was charged later Thursday morning with the cocaine and delinquency charge as well as with possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing.
