RACINE COUNTY - More than 26 ball fields in the greater Milwaukee area will be renovated Saturday morning, courtesy of area lawn industry companies.

Using seed and fertilizer donated by Spring Valley and Milorganite, lawn and landscape firms will aerate and overseed ball fields at churches, schools and community parks.

Ball fields to be renovated include: Starbuck and Gilmore middle schools; Fratt Elementary School; Mitchell Middle and Elementary School; Racine Montessori School; Burlington Area High School and unspecified Burlington grade schools; Whitford Park in Waterford; Waterford High School; Meyer Park in the Town of Norway; an unspecified park in the Union Grove area; and Union Grove Christian School.

The renovations are part of a collaborative effort with national non-profit Project EverGreen, a service organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing green spaces today and for future generations.

Lawn and landscape firms selected ball fields to which they have a personal or community connection. The stated goal is to demonstrate the importance of green spaces, such as well-managed lawns and landscapes, gardens, parks, sports fields and golf courses are to the environment, the economy, and the overall quality of life.
