Performance may have violated probation
FRANKSVILLE - Reality shows can get pretty wild.
But one Franksville Bridezilla's performance put her behind bars.
After appearing on the We TV reality show "Bridezillas," newlywed Karee Gibson Hart, 21, was arrested Monday for violating her probation in connection with appearing on the show.
On We TV's online description of Gibson Hart it says she is "possibly the meanest, most abusive Bridezilla of all time" and "threatened to snap necks if anyone gets in the way of her wedding."
Monday afternoon that Bridezilla was put behind bars and is under investigation, confirmed John Dipko, Wisconsin Department of Corrections spokesman.
According to Wisconsin administrative code, offenders on community supervision can be detained if they are alleged to be involved in "assaultive or dangerous conduct," among other behaviors.
Dipko said Gibson Hart was arrested for violating rules of community supervision in connection with her appearance on the reality show. But because there is an ongoing investigation, Dipko said he could not disclose the alleged violations.
Gibson Hart's attorney Alan Eisenberg said his client's probation officers gave her permission to appear on the show, which was filmed in January. But after the show aired in July she was told she violated her probation, Eisenberg said.
Gibson Hart's grandmother, Mae Gibson, said when her granddaughter was 17 she was sentenced to five years of probation because of a fight in high school involving a dangerous weapon. But since then, she said, her granddaughter has received her high school diploma and is taking business classes online though the University of Phoenix, while raising her 2-year-old son.
"The person portrayed on Bridezilla is black and white," Gibson said. "It was an act."
For instance, Gibson said, in one scene her granddaughter destroyed a homemade present from her future mother-in-law.
But in reality, she said, her granddaughter had made the present herself specifically for that scene. Gibson said her granddaughter actually gets along very well with her new mother-in-law.
We TV was not available to comment Monday.
While the Department of Corrections investigates Gibson Hart's behavior, Eisenberg has petitioned the Racine County Circuit Court to release her from jail.
His petition says Gibson is being held "without lawful authority" and "is restrained of her personal liberty."
He filed the petition Monday afternoon, Eisenberg said, but a court date has not yet been set.
