KENOSHA - The Carthage Wind Orchestra will present its fall concert, "Special Delivery", at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night in A.F. Siebert Chapel, 2001 Alford Park Drive. There is no admission fee.
The soloist will be soprano Laura Kaeppeler, a senior music education major from Kenosha. She will sing a set of four Carl Sandburg poems scored for voice and band by Lew Buckley, former director of the United States Coast Guard Band.
The program opens with a fanfare for brass and percussion, "Aesclepius" by Michael Daugherty. Another work for reduced instrumentation is "Overnight Mail" by Milwaukee native Michael Torke. Scored for flute, horn, three saxophones, three trombones, three trumpets, piano and string bass, this jazz-influenced piece showcases the virtuosity of each member of the ensemble. Also to be performed is "Asuka," a piece by Japanese composer Tetsunosuke Kushida, and Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Prelude on Three Welsh Hymn Tunes."
