RACINE - After kicking down the door to an Ohio Street home early Thursday morning, possibly with the intent to steal a gun, a 20-year-old Racine man found himself being held at gunpoint until police arrived.
Racine police said Brian Bohm broke down the door to the side-by-side residence at 220 Ohio St. at 5:20 a.m. He was apparently headed straight for the kitchen, where the residents keep an unloaded handgun in a drawer.
Bohm was reportedly stopped by Karrie Davis, 42, who heard the door to her home being kicked in. She came down the stairs and jumped on him, according to police.
Davis' son, Zachary O'Brien, 22, also heard the ruckus. Reports said he went to the kitchen, got the unloaded gun and went to help his mother.
O'Brien allegedly hit Bohm in the head with the gun. After a brief struggle, Bohm fled from the house into the yard.
Once outside, Bohm was tackled by the next door neighbor, Robert Aanonsen, who had also heard Bohm breaking into the house, reports said. Davis then went outside with the unloaded gun and told Bohm not to move or she would shoot, according to reports.
Police were called and officers took Bohm into custody. He was arrested on charges of burglary with intent to steal, two charges of misdemeanor battery, criminal damage to property and an outstanding warrant from Mount Pleasant.
Both Davis and O'Brien went to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints hospital, 3801 Spring St., for treatment of minor injuries. Police said Davis suffered pain to her ribs and hip, and a laceration to her hand. O'Brien suffered pain to his ankle and knees as a result of the struggle with Bohm.
Three other people in the home at the time of the break-in were not injured.
Bohm also sustained a cut to the head during the altercation, however he refused medical treatment.
Police are trying to determine what connection Bohm had to the house and the people who live there. Reports said there is a possibility that he knew a friend of a family member and may have been headed for the kitchen, because he knew that a handgun was stored there.
