SOMERS - Mentor Kenosha & Racine, an affiliated program of the Center for Community Partnerships (CCP) at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, presents the workshop, "Mentor/Mentee Relationship Building Blocks." Featuring Mike Frontier, the evening session takes place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in Tallent Hall on the UW-Parkside campus, 900 Wood Road.
Frontier, who has served the community for 35 years as a principal at elementary, middle and high schools in Racine, leads this interactive training session on the building of successful mentoring relationships. The workshop includes a panel of mentors and mentees who will discuss their relationships, the importance of goal setting, and the critical significance of establishing trust.
In collaboration with teachers and parents, Frontier helped create the "School for the Future" at Racine's Gifford Middle School, the Fine Arts Magnet at Racine Mitchell Middle School, and the San Juan Diego Middle School in 2003. As graduate support director at San Juan Diego, he oversees mentor support for the 55 graduates now attending high school.
Registration for the workshop begins at 6 p.m. in the Orchard Room of Tallent Hall. The session is open to all individuals seeking to learn more about starting and/or developing a meaningful mentoring relationship.
To register, call Felicia Stallworth at (262) 595-2312. Cost of the session is $10 and scholarships are available.
