Armed man robs High Street Foods
A man armed with a semi-automatic handgun walked into High Street Foods, 704 High St., Thursday night, pointed his gun at the clerk and demanded cash, Racine police said.
The clerk, a 46-year-old man, told officers that he was behind the counter when the robber came in around 8:45 p.m. Reports said the robber walked up to the counter and began looking at the scratch-off lottery tickets.
Police said when the clerk walked toward the register, the robber pulled out the gun, pointed it at him and said, "Give me all the cash you have." The suspect then motioned toward the cash register with his gun.
Reports said the clerk opened the cash drawer and the robber leaned over the counter and grabbed the money out of the drawer. The suspect then fled the store with the money.
A witness told police he saw the suspect run west on High Street and then south on Superior Street.
The robber is described as a black man in his 30s, with a light goatee, about 160 to 190 pounds and approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a navy blue hooded jacket with a white emblem on the left upper chest, white striping on the sleeves and white and red stripes along the bottom of the jacket. He also had on a brown knit stocking cap, white T-shirt, black pants and black shoes.
Police said video surveillance captured the robbery on tape.

Road signs stolen
The Town of Norway public works foreman called town police Wednesday to report an ongoing problem with highway signs being stolen.
The foreman said that over the last three months signs have been taken in an area ranging from east of Highway 36, west of Highway 45, and as far south as Bennett Road and as far north as Walzack Road.
In most cases the signs have been unbolted from their posts, which the foreman said was not an easy task for a single person to do. Most of the thefts appeared to have taken place during the night.
The foreman also noted that a new road barricade was taken sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Police reports did not indicate a dollar loss for the missing signs. The matter has been forwarded to the Racine County Sheriff's Department investigative bureau.
