CALEDONIA

Alleged OWI driver had teen passenger

Village police and the state patrol responded to a call at 10:33 p.m. Aug. 13 to a report of a vehicle off the road in the 6400 block of Highway H.

Officers responding found James V. Carravetta, 44, 409 Freres Ave., Racine and a 14-year-old relation. They were not injured.

Police allegedly found open intoxicants in the car and took Freres to the police station, where he complained about a cardiac problem and had to be taken to the hospital.

Freres was eventually charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a passenger under 16, failure to maintain control and having open intoxicants in a vehicle.

CALEDONIA

Elderly man victim of burglary

Perhaps as much as $1,000 was taken on the night of Aug. 12 when an 80-year-old man left his Wedgewood Drive residence to visit a local tavern.

The man told police he was gone for two hours, between 9:20 p.m. and 11:20 p.m. When he returned, he found a back door open and broken window glass.

He also found drawers rummaged through.

MOUNT PLEASANT

Man scuffles with police

A 56-year-old Mount Pleasant man was pepper sprayed and stunned several times with a Taser during a scuffle with village police and sheriff's deputies the week of Aug. 10 at an apartment building at 4828 Indian Hills Drive.

Police were trying to take the man into protective custody for a mental health issue when he began resisting.

The scuffle began in an apartment and made its way to the complex grounds.

MOUNT PLEASANT

Internal thefts reported at Wal-Mart

Two former employees of the Wal-Mart store, 3049 Oakes Road, were charged earlier this month for theft after investigations into alleged employee thefts.

On the afternoon of Aug. 11, Terrell D. Cobbs, 23, 1317 Villa St., Racine, was arrested. Store management alleges that Cobb discounted or credited $670 worth of items between Aug. 2 and 6.

Deaunte D. Lewis, 20, 1517 Owen Ave., Racine, was arrested on the morning of Aug. 5 for allegedly "under ringing" merchandise on several occasions since June 24.

ROCHESTER

County park vandalized

A deputy on patrol the evening of Aug. 14 at Case Eagle county park, Highway J near Highway 36, found restrooms and playground equipment vandalized.

The deputy found sand from the volleyball courts in sinks, sand smeared on windows and a plastic bottle jammed in a toilet.

He also found vulgar messages and pornographic images spray painted on playground equipment and a trash can overturned.

UNION GROVE

Men facing criminal damage charges

Two men are facing criminal damage charges after allegedly slashing tires on a vehicle just after 11:30 p.m. Aug. 13 outside the R&R Club, 1017 Main St.

Arrested were Jason Roy Preuss, 29, 1400 West St., Union Grove, and Ziggy Hooser, 25, 4123 108th St. Raymond, The owner of the vehicle is a 34-year-old rural Union Grove man.

CITY OF BURLINGTON

Vehicle vandalized

An estimated $1,100 in damage occurred after a 56-year-old Burlington resident's car had its windshield smashed and driver's and passenger's sides keyed while it was parked in the 100 block of South Kane Street.

The damage was reported at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 11.

UNION GROVE

Teen takes aunt's car

A 13-year-old Union Grove girl is facing a charge of operating a vehicle without owner's consent and possible charges of burglary and bail jumping after an incident just before 3:20 p.m. Aug. 15 at the old Union Grove Grade School, 810 14th St.

According to Sheriff's Department reports, the girl entered an aunt's apartment, took her car keys and then drove the vehicle around the village with friends in tow.

At one point, witnesses said the car nearly ran down some children playing at the school grounds.

RACINE

Inmate exposes himself at jail

Sheriff's deputies charged Jimmy Lee Cunningham, 25, 6755 14th Ave., Kenosha, with indecent exposure for allegedly flashing his genitals to a counselor just before 2 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Racine County Jail, 717 Wisconsin Ave. Cunningham is an inmate at the jail.

TOWN OF NORWAY

Appliances stolen

A washer, valued at $700, and a dryer, valued at $500, were reported stolen at 10 a.m. Aug. 15 from a residential construction site at 3726 Ridgeview Lane. The appliances could have been taken any time after Aug. 13 and contractors may have left a door unsecured, sheriff reports indicate.

MOUNT PLEASANT

Reckless driving report nets OWI arrest

A tow truck driver called 911 just after 11 p.m. on Aug. 14 after seeing an alleged reckless driver heading eastbound on Durand Avenue from Highway 31.

A sheriff's deputy caught up with the vehicle a short distance away at Durand and Meachem Road.

Kevin Bertelson, 51, 5819 16th St., Racine, was charged with his third offense of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

MOUNT PLEASANT

Man arrested after vandalism

Witnesses told sheriff's deputies a 51-year-old Racine man allegedly became enraged after finding his car damaged just after 11 p.m. on Aug. 14 outside Dickie's bar, 1537 Durand Ave.

Raymond Allan Smith is then alleged to have taken out his frustrations by throwing a brick at a 26-year-old Mount Pleasant man's 1998 GMC Yukon.

Smith, 2921 Fleetwood Drive, is facing charges of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.
