CALEDONIA - Village police have stepped up patrols in the area around North Park Elementary School after an apparent attempted abduction of a child just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to information from the Racine Unified School District, a student from Racine's Jerstad-Agerholm Middle School was at the intersection of Windale Drive and Parry Avenue when the incident occurred. The intersection is located just a block south of 4 Mile Road and less than a mile east of Douglas Avenue and a couple of blocks northeast of North Park Elementary, 4748 Elizabeth St.

The suspect was described as a balding white male with gray hair in his late 50s. He was driving an older silver car, possibly a four-door vehicle.

It was unclear from the information from the school district what the student was doing at the intersection. Also, no details were given of the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the gender of the child.

Police were still working on the case Thursday. No further details were available at press time.

Village police have told North Park Principal Mark Zanin that they do not want residents to confront a potential suspect if they come across someone matching the description. Anyone with information is urged to call the Police Department at (262) 835-4423 or 911 for an emergency.
