TOWN OF BURLINGTON
Vandalism a theory in furnace malfunction
A resident of the Hall's Point neighborhood on Browns Lake said she believes vandalism may be the reason her heating stem malfunctioned on Dec. 21.
The Knollcrest Drive resident said she and her family awoke to no heat that morning. When a service man arrived, he found a nickel-sized, 1/4-inch thick piece of glass in the furnace exhaust vent. Town police said it is unlikely that one piece of glass malfunctioned the system, but it was unknown at the time of the report if more glass had made its way into the furnace system.
The woman told police their property has been the target of vandalism over the past couple of years.
Police ordered extra patrols of the area as a precaution.
