RACINE - The Department of Public Works will begin reinstalling parking meters in the West Racine business district starting Monday, said Keith Haas, Racine water and wastewater utilities general manager.

The meters will be reinstalled in front of businesses along Washington, Grove and Hayes avenues, where they were previously located. They will also be reinstalled in parking lots behind the businesses except for one row of parking for customers.

The city removed the parking meters for a year and a half while they worked on a sewer project in a parking lot behind Johnson's Furniture, 3219 Washington Ave, Haas said.

In exchange for closing down the parking lot the city removed the parking meters from the streets to accommodate customers, Haas said. The public works department will also be adding bushes and shrubbery around the parking lot within the month, Haas said.
