Firefighters extinguish chimney fire
An early Friday morning fire in a chimney created smoky conditions, but no structural damage at Accu-Temp, 2400 Racine St.
Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant fire crews were called to the tool and die manufacturer just after 1:30 a.m. Mount Pleasant Fire Chief Bill Bouma said the fire was extinguished within 30 minutes and the fire probably resulted from build up in the chimney. There were no injuries or problems reported during the call.
RACINE
Robbers push their way into man's apartment
A 39-year-old man reported being the victim of a home invasion robbery Thursday, according to Racine police.
Reports said the man was home at his apartment in the 3100 block of Wheelock Drive around 1 a.m. Oct. 2 when he heard someone knocking on the door to the next apartment. He told police a few minutes later someone knocked on his door.
The man looked through the peephole, but didn't see anyone and didn't answer the door, police said. About 10 minutes later someone began knocking again, only louder, the man told officers.
This time, after not seeing anyone through the peephole, the man opened the door and looked down the hall. Reports said one of two suspects charged at him and pushed his way into the man's apartment. The man told officers the second suspect followed them in.
Police said the suspects pushed and punched the man, demanded money and threatened to hurt him. The suspects allegedly twisted the man's arm, took his wallet and a video game system worth about $150, before fleeing the apartment.
The man told police he did not contact authorities immediately because he was scared. Police were called to take a report of the incident later in the day on Oct. 2 after the man's co-workers encouraged him to call.
RACINE
Dogs stolen from fenced yard
Two dogs, a shepherd mix and a boxer mix, were reported stolen from a fenced yard in the 2300 block of Blaine Avenue on Oct. 2, according to police.
Reports said the dogs were let outside at 2 p.m. One hour later, they were gone from the yard.
Police did receive an animal at large complaint a few minutes before 3 p.m. about two dogs running west on Durand Avenue near Taylor Avenue. The dogs were never located.
ROCHESTER
Wire stolen from county facility
Copper wires stolen from Highway Department station
Twenty pieces of plastic coated copper wire were cut off transformers at the Racine County Highway Department, 31929 Academy Trail between Sept. 23 and 25.
Reports said the wiring, which belonged to WE Energies, is worth an estimated $300.
CALEDONIA
Steel reported missing
Twenty to 30-feet of corrugated steel was reported missing Oct. 2 from outside a pole barn at a property in the 12000 block of Highway G. The property owner said the steel had to be taken some time in the last week and told village police that two passersby had inquired about the steel some time over the summer.
The owner did not know the value of the steel, but police said steel has a current market value of $1,000 per ton.
CALEDONIA
Soccer complex's golf cart missing
A golf cart used in the painting of field lines was reported missing Oct. 2 from a shed at the SCORE Soccer complex, 9614 Northwestern Ave.
According to SCORE officials, the shed was secured with a combination lock and 10 people know the combination of the lock, which was also missing. The value of the cart was listed at $3,000.
CALEDONIA
Numerous charges follow traffic stop
A 47-year-old Racine man was arrested on numerous charges after village police stopped a vehicle for driving without tail lights at 1:47 a.m. Oct. 2 at the intersection of North Main Street and 3 Mile Road.
Eddie L. Lacy, 2926 Lincolnwood Drive, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, having open intoxicants in a vehicle, operating a vehicle after revocation, noregistration of a vehicle, displaying unauthorized registration, driving without tail lights, a seat belt violation and possession of stolen property for having a stolen license plate on the vehicle.
RACINE
Voter fraud investigated
The Racine County Sheriff's Department was called Oct. 2 to investigate two reports of alleged voter fraud. The Racine City Clerk's office alleges that a 30-year-old Racine man voted twice in the 2004 presidential election and a 33-year-old Sturtevant woman voted two times in a June 2005 special referendum election.
The investigation is continuing and no further details were released.
MOUNT PLEASANT
Vandalism found at park, stores
An estimated $570 in damage occurred after vandals spray painted a restroom facility and traffic signs some time after 4 p.m. Oct. 1 and 8 a.m. Oct. 2 at Stewart-McBride Park, north of Highway 11 and west of Highway 31.
While investigating the vandalism, village police also discovered vandalism near by at the rear of the Barnes and Noble and Dick's Sporting Goods stores.
MOUNT PLEASANT
Guitar store burglarized
Four acoustic guitars, collectively valued at $3,700, were taken some time over the night/early morning of Oct. 1-2 in a burglary at Guitar Works, 6634 Durand Ave. Three of the guitars were later located nearby underneath trees in the 2900 block of Cozy Acres Road.
Village police said a side window on the store was shattered to gain entry.
STURTEVANT
Fresh concrete damaged
Repair costs are estimated between $150 and $660 for work needed to fix six freshly-poured concrete squares at a property in the 3300 block of Buckingham Drive. The damage was reported at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 2. Juveniles may be responsible, according to police reports.
